I'm a pharmacy technician who works at a college campus (meaning we do a lot of acne meds) and also an acne sufferer, so I can tell you this: There are a LOT of acne medications out there, and none of them work the same way for everyone. I've tried amoxicillin, tetracycline, spironolactone, clindamycin, retin-a, benzoyl peroxide, and isotretinoin. The isotretinoin (most commonly known as Accutane) worked for about a year after I finished my (very miserable) treatment before my acne returned. Retin-a was by far my favorite topical and if I decide to go back to a dermatologist, I'd request that again. It recently became generic as well, so it should be a lot cheaper through your insurance.
Hey OP, I had really bad acne and went to my doctor and got subscribed to Doxcycline 50 which is just a type of antibiotic that helps your skin, my acne has improved amazingly since I got it you just take 2 tablets per day and it works!
Have you tried cutting out Dairy and if that doesn't get rid of it all processed sugar? I had the same issue cut Dairy and within 2-3 weeks my entire face cleared up:-)
Acne really isnt a cureable thing, its all about your skin types and how oily you are and what you eat (yes it does affect you). Try to stay away from greasy foods and if you work out, make sure to wash sweat off the face really good. I use some real cheap Avon stuff (think its called lightspeed or something) along with a liquid cleanser that smells like nail polish remover and its fantastic.
Try a diet change. Talk to a holistic nutritionist.
I just watched a story about a teenage girl getting bullied because of her severe acne condition until she found out that cosmetics concealed her appearence and she felt beautiful and had the sense of clear skin. She is now a stunning supermodel and an inspiration to all suffering from acne. Other than that, have you tried Acnetame? This stuff might work for you.
As a first line, over the counter defense you can try salicylic acid. Salicylic acid comes on 2% or 3%. The highest over the counter % you will find for the face is 2%, but Neutrogena makes a dandruff shampoo called TGel that has 3% salicylic acid, which if tolerated can be used on the face and body for acne. Also over the counter you want to look for products with benzoyl peroxide in them. Prescription wise, a topical antibiotic can be used, such as clindamycin, or a mixture of benzoyl peroxide and topical clindamycin. Also, retinoids, most commonly tretinoin, can be prescribed. They are a derivative of vitamin a . They are good for your skin. You don't want to spot treat, you want to do the treatment on your entire face because it peels away only the bad skin and not only kills acne but prevents it from forming. It's like a beauty regimen for your skin, as you age it can actually help prevent wrinkles. You will peel badly the first coupl weeks, so moistuize! It will make your sensitive to sunlight, so wear sun screen!! Next can be an oral antibiotic such as doxycycline or mini cyclone along with the topicals, but derms like to stay off long courses of oral antibiotics because of antibiotic resistance. Next, if you are female, high doses of estrogen/progesterone birth control pills can help with acne. Finally, there is Accutane, which is for severe acne. It is proven to lead to complete remission for almost all cases. For pregnant females to get on it though, it can be a little tricky, because it does cause birth defects, and any female who can become pregnant has to go through the ipledge program which states you will not become pregnant while taking accutane. Bottom line, acne can always be cured, get a second opinion!!! I'm a nurse practitioner
I used claravis and it worked
drinking less pop and eating less junk food helped my acne. An unhealthy diet is the main cause of acne.

And basically rape your wallet!
Unfortunately that's the way some medical conditions work. We don't really understand them well, so our best hope is to throw the kitchen sink at them and hope something works. Now if only there were a prescription to cure stupidity.
