Today, I attended my first surgery as part of my program at med school. I found out that when I see someone's intestines, I vomit. Even if I'm still wearing a surgical mask. There goes the thousands of dollars I spent on college. FML

I have a fear of that happening when I train to be a vet. I can't stand blood but apparently I'll get used of it...

You could always try different medical fields if you have trouble operating on people. I could never do it, that's for sure, so good job on the effort

15- And you know this because you work there and overheard him.

... that sucks OP! Still don't give up on becoming a doctor, if this keeps happening, then consider a different specialty... unless og coursew you're only in it for the cutting, then run as fast as you can

Don't give up so easily. You'll desensitize fast enough - or you can choose another specialty. Your college degree certainly isn't wasted.

Eyes are disgusting, especially eye injuries.

It happens all the time, trust me. I work in a mortuary and the first day I was there, I passed out. Apparently one of my coworkers had been working in the industry for years and years, left it to do flower deliveries for two years, and then came back and passed out on his first day.

I'm a vet student, and I had to leave the room and sit down the first time I saw surgery because I was about to pass out and/or vomit. After watching a few more, I stopped having a problem. Most people need to adjust to it before they're comfortable with surgery- it just takes some exposure. Don't drop out of med school just because you didn't handle your *first* surgery well. Give it time and try to desensitize yourself before you make a major decision like that. And if all else fails, not all doctors are surgeons so you still have plenty of other options. You've worked hard to get where you are, and you certainly haven't wasted your time. Just take a deep breath and try again.

Well hang on now there still other things you can do in medical school. Don't give up.

Don't get discouraged by that! I'm a vet student and I almost passed out the first time I saw an animal gutted. You'll get used to it!

Basic anatomy has you elbow deep in cadavers. There is no way you got all the way to med school before seeing an intestine...
