The first time you see something like that has to be a big shock! Next time, just prepare your self and hopefully you'll do better.
Don't waste that money and knowledge. You will get used to it. We all need to get used.to certain things. Just like a cop becomes used to seeing dead bodies. It was ONE time. If you give up after that YDI and are weak. Take nausea pills, wear motion sickness bracelets, learn pressure points and breathing techniques. Exhaust ALL options before giving in. Adapt and overcome!!
Am I really the only one wondering if OP was anywhere near the open patient when they vomited?
Nope. But I doubt it if its his first surgery. It said he attended, not performed and those attending don't get that close.
Only a thousand?!?!? Where did you go to medical school I can't find a med school that cheap....oh you could specialize to cardiology, so you don't have to waste your money...
"There goes the thousandS of dollars..." There was an "s" at the end of that. ^_^
Go into research if you can't handle it.
Just because surgery is not your type of things does not mean you should give up your dreams of becoming a doctor. There are tons of different PhD titles aside from surgery and most do not involve opened bodies. I am not sure if you are aware of it, but you are not the only one who had such a horrible experience. I have heard stories of medical students passing out by the sight of blood and whatnot, which makes me wonder why they do not start off by volunteering in places like the ER. By doing so, they can test if they can deal with blood, bones protruding from a body, etc.

I have a fear of that happening when I train to be a vet. I can't stand blood but apparently I'll get used of it...
You could always try different medical fields if you have trouble operating on people. I could never do it, that's for sure, so good job on the effort
