Today, I bleached my upper lip hair so it wouldn't be visible anymore. At school, for the first time, the guy I like came over to talk to me after class. Just as I thought he was about to ask me out, he told me how weird my "gold moustache" looks. FML

Except for a few sagacious and understanding people here, I'm surprised to see how benighted some folks are. Saying "I'm gonna assume you're dark because you're Indian" is like saying "I'm gonna assume you're fat because you're American." No we aren't all dark, some of us have extremely light skin tone and brown hair. Secondly, some of the airheads here can't seem to accept the fact that all women have body hair and a peach fuzz above your lips isn't a big deal. How would you have felt if we shamed you for having a hairy stomach or a hairy back and asked you to wax them regularly? If you can't accept us women as we are, don't expect us to accept you in your natural form as well.

Shave it every day or so, or wax it. You can also try Nair, but then you might end up with irritated looking skin. Laser treatment also works, but can be expensive. Up to you how you want to handle it.

You should wax it. Its not as painful as it seems

if you shave it, it will come out thicker. Just wax it, its much easier & when you kiss someone you won't give them a rug burn

Wax or have it threaded. If you shave it it will come back stubbly and look like a 5 o'clock shadow every now and then and I've seen it happen. I get mine threaded every three weeks or so bc it lasts longer than a wax. Good luck OP, sorry about the awkward situation. He doesnt know what he's missing out on and clearly not worth being a crush.

I shave my mustache, chin, and cheek area 2-3 times a week! I'm not ashamed of my facial hair, but I do enjoy a smoother face. If you try it out, I suggest a good men's razor and a nice shaving cream! Good luck, OP, and don't feel bad. Lots and lots of people have facial hair!

Don't shave it! Shaving is a commitment, or it will feel prickly quickly. Waxing is great, but obviously can be painful. I recommend Nair, but make sure you test it first! Good luck sweetie!

Someone's being pissy because she decided to submit an fml and got negative feedback...

How would you like it if you were expected to have to have no emotions and expected to have muscles and if you don't you are a loser? Double standards.

Even I have upper lip hair, most women do. I actually shave mine off to avoid the hassle of trying to lighten the hair or wax it lol but still. Stupid double standards

Ignore the haters, I bet your blonde moustache looked radiant.

#89, way to change the subject and try to make it about you. Those aren't double standards. Most people don't think it's fair that guys are expected to be that way either. As a human, it's not natural or healthy to suppress emotions, and the body standards aren't right either. Just like it isn't right, and most people don't think it's fair, that girls are expected to be hairless despite the fact that it isn't natural either. So how about instead of fighting over who has it worse and all the different expectations that the genders have, we instead work on getting rid of these stupid and outdated standards.

I feel you, OP. I'm also very fair-skinned with dark, bushy body hair, and naturally blonde head hair to boot. I used to bleach my mustache throughout high school, but I eventually just started shaving it everyday, and I like it much better than bleaching. I think if you use the incorrect ratio of the ingredients (I forget the names, activator and something else?) that might be what causes it to be yellow, but I'm not positive on that. As for waxing, I considered that, but you'd have to let it grow back to a certain length every time.

Yeah **** these people. I'm a woman and I have a stache! And toe hair! And finger hair! Oh and some hair on my belly. And most women do. Get over it. Also it's not unhygienic unlike how most of you dudes are below the belt, lbr.

I can see it working if it's thin and you get it dyed light enough. I can sympathize, my brother likes to poke fun at my "mustache". Joke or not, it really hurts the self esteem. I've been debating trying to wax it.

Hey, just want to show support. Idk why women's body hair has become so taboo, it's natural! Lots of women do regularly bleach their upper lip hair with success; it's possible you left it on too long and got a stronger result than desired. It was your first time, practice makes perfect. But it's also possible that guy is just a jerk.

You go girl. Don't shave or wax if you don't want to. Be comfortable with how you are. Either way looks come and go, just love yourself as is ??

88, I regret to inform you, but you're acting like a bitch.

I understand but isn't bleaching painful? Or irritating? I've only bleached my hair once and it irritates my skin. But shaving makes it grow back weird (IMO) so I prefer to wax... Saves me time. But to each their own.

It depends on the time you have it on and strength I think, but it does start burning/itching, I haven't done my lip but I've done my eyebrows and it was horrible!

So if having a little hair above your lip isn't such a big deal, then why did you bleach it? Nobody asked you to change. You did that on your own. Stop putting your hatred of your body hair on others. You didnt have to bleach it and you don't have to shave it. It's your body so it's your choice. Don't get all pissy when people give decent advice. If it's so blonde that it's more noticeable now than before, then maybe shaving/waxing is a good idea. If this is just one weirdo who stares at your upper lip, then who cares? Don't bitch about the double standard when you follow it. YOU decided to do this. Nobody forced you.

112 - god forbid OP and other women do something to make themselves feel better in a world where the standard of beauty is photoshop.

It's easy to say no ones forcing us. Sure no one is forcing our hand to do it, but how are you treated if you don't? I've had another girl loudly mock me in a gym class full of other students for leg hair about 2-3 days after I shaved when it was just coming back in. As I said, I have been repeatedly mocked for lip hair. Had people show disgust at armpit hair that's barely growing in again. I don't think women should have to shave if they don't want to and hate they're expected to, but I also can't stop shaving because I know how women are treated if they don't. I prefer little to no body hair, but I want it to be that: a choice. Am I not allowed to hate it if I just want it to be a choice? Only if I want to not shave?

Thank you couldn't agree more. I was taken aback by that reply by OP.

I've gone months without shaving my legs. Women were more grossed out than guys. Guys just said as long as their hair was longer then it was cool with them. I have naturally soft skin and once the hair grows in a bit it's soft too. Girls were the ones to make comments but it didn't make me wanna shave. I shave my armpits because I think it's gross on my body. I don't care about anyone else and would never make a comment. A girl I work with has a mustache. It's not that noticeable and honestly none of my business so I would never mention it to her. I've seen a lady with beard before and I didn't act any differently. Some women have facial hair. Even if you're being bullied, you're still not being forced to do ANYTHING. You want to change the "problem" so the bullying stops. It's still your decision. OP is pissed off that SHE bleached her mustache poorly and everyone gave her advice on what to do. Sounds like she's the problem, not us.

First of all, clearly you didn't like your mustache because you tried to cover it up. You can expect strangers to accept whatever hair you may have, but people will always have their own preference despite your beliefs. It's not a problem with persecution or oppression it's merely preference. You cannot expect him to like it. Call it unfair all you like, but there will always be those who like a good Sasquatch and those who prefer mustache-free women. A woman would tell you the same thing.

122 not everyone is giving her "advice". People are making fun of her for bleaching it and not using a different method. I don't understand why people can't just be supportive of each other instead of bringing people down. Yeah it was her choice to bleach it, but it wasn't her choice that people made fun of her mustache. Society puts pressure on women to be perfect and make fun of people when they aren't. Society also says to love your self, but they make fun of you when if its not to there standards.

All I'm going to say is, slay, girl.

My toe hair is terrible and I have to shave it but I ran out of cream

it usually comes back darker or thinker

That's actually a proven myth. Hair doest grow back thicker or darker after shaving.
