Today, I blurted out something like "humdidumdum erm lalala" in public, attracting mystified stares. The thing is, I do this every time I remember something embarrassing I've said or done in the past, in an attempt to erase it out of my consciousness. So it happens a lot. FML

Is that by Skrillex? So, you do an embarrassing thing in the present to erase embarrassing things from your past? Looks like you've set up an infinite loop.

Dafuq? I'm sorry, just try and train yourself to forget those embarrassments and do it in private. In your house, or your room. Good luck OP!

There is no reason to dwell on past mistakes. First, they are PAST mistakes. Second, everyone has regrets about their past. Consciously give it up to your higher power. Let them own it. Don’t take it back. If you recall it in the future, recognize that you don’t own it anymore. Laugh it off because it is just funny. Then, go on with your life and leave it behind.

i dont know why you got thumbed down. i think this was a good comment. now if you are recalli.g something that happened yesterday it may be a bit more difficult to let it fo so quickly. i have many ways i use to not let humiliating moments come to mind, one is that little by little change the story, the event i. your head, eventually you will have lied to your self enough that you believe that your version of how it happened really is what happened. i could've explained that better but i haven't slept in 36 hrs, so if my comment didn't make sense i apologize.

Let someone else own your mistakes! That sounds like an easy way out to me. How about owning your actions and dealing with it instead of pawning it off on someone else. Even if it is to a 'higher power'. That is how people improve themselves.

But... Why Harry Potter? :P

Where can I find you? I'd like to see this in person.

And you do this because...? It's an FYL if it's uncontrollable, but if you just do it for some strange reason YDI.

Or you could do something we learn to do at a young age: read. Everything is written in the FML. And even if he consciously does it, it just makes him a little odd, it doesn't **** his life up.

@Geko - This is true, but such habits (especially ones so absurd and embarrassing) can easily be diminished, sometimes with the help of a professional. As for the "f his life" part, this IS FML after all... OP posted it here for a reason.

And obviously I know it's because OP thinks of an embarrassing moment (I'm not illiterate), but the underlying reasons is what I want to know.

I think you meant subconsciously not unconsciously

I feel your pain, although I don't usually say anything I just turn red as a tomato and stare wide-eyed in front of me. Oh embarrassing moments, they never end. Perhaps you should cover your mouth when these events happen? You know, muffle the sound or something?

Don't worry I do the same thing.........

I'm not too sure why you (OP) give a damn. I'll bet very few people noticed and of those who did hardly anyone will remember an hour later. Of the few who might, how many will you ever meet again in your life? Loads of apparently mad people hold whole conversations with themselves in public. Most are wearing wireless headsets so if it really is a problem for you just buy yourself one and next time pass it off as part of the call you are having!

Oh Noor, you know just the right things to say ;)

Turn that into an opportunity! Go for a few days without taking a shower, stop brushing your teeth, brushing your hair, or shaving, put on well worn old clothes and roll around in the dirt - then hit the streets with a bucket and think up all the embarrassing stuff you have ever said. Puck the right street corner and you can take in hundreds a day tax free!
