It could be that when he filed for the job, he never mentioned it to the work place. If you feel unsafe, you should write an anonymous letter to HR explaining that you found out he was listed as a registered sex offender and you feel unsafe. Most large companies have HR lines that you can call anonymously and speak your mind about things.

So many people are registered as sex offenders for relatively minor things. A girl I went to high school with was walking home drunk with a group of friends after a party one night and stopped to pee in an alley. A cop saw her and wrote her up for exposing herself in public and she's now considered a sex offender in that state. Chances are good that if he has a decent job they require background checks, so they'd have known he was listed, and probably knew that he wasn't in there for a violent crime. He could've been a 19 year old guy dating a 17 year old girl with really uptight parents who had him arrested for statutory. If he's in a good workplace, he's probably not even dangerous. That being said, you're still a douche for walking around bragging to your coworkers like that.

Maybe he did something wrong a long time ago and changed for the better. Don't think you should judge him before you know the whole story..
