Today, I came out of the closet. Now whenever I'm getting ready to go somewhere with my dad he says, "Lesgo, lesbo." FML

I like your dad, he seems to have a sense of humor.

At least he's not making it worse than that

#119, are you sure that's a real story? It sounds like one of those longwinded jokes with the punchline missing.

Definitely not a ful. Seems like your dad just has a sense of humor. Many kids are kicked out by their parents once they come out. A few jokes at your expense doesn't seem so harsh in comparison.

I'm bisexual and came out to my parents. Mom is still trying to get out of the "it's a phase" mind set, but seriously? I know people who told their parents and they disowned them and kicked then out. Your dad sounds like mine, but my dad I know fully accepts it. If that's the worse you endure from your parents on that then be appreciative you are one of the lucky ones. Though it may upset you just know if he didn't love you or willing to accept it then he would probably be like those other parents and disown you. So make light jokes. I remember one I was driving my dad somewhere as I parked crooked, right? He was all "Uh Dravvin you didn't park straight." So I went "I'm not straight!" And seriously, it was just turned into light humor right there. Be thankful you are one of the lucky ones, sweetie. I know I am :)

Relax, commenters. I'm pretty sure that a father/daughter relationship that contains that kind of non-PC joke will survive both 1) her sexuality and 2) his sense of humor. Keep your diatribes to yourself. And OP - congrats on a dad who isn't freaking out, disowning you, beating you up, or taking you to anti-gay therapy.

Just try and go along with it with a laugh! No worries :) congrats on coming out though!
