Sorry, OP. I hope you some how get through to her,
Well, to be fair to the mother, she may have heard the "you're born that way" and assumed it was purely genetic, and when combined with an outdated high school level understanding of genetics, I could see how she could make that mistake.
She must be of the sort that believes that homosexuality is genetic. It's not. It's determined by hormone levels in the womb.
#60 - no, it's not. If it were, all twins would both be gay or straight. I'm straight with a gay brother.
are you sure that you're straight?
#108 - Yes, I am.
Hormone levels don't affect everyone the same way. Also, there is only a direct link between hormone levels in utero and male homosexuality, not female homosexuality. So if you're a girl and your twin twin brother is gay, then that would explain why he's gay and you're not. If you're both boys, then I stand by my original explanation that not everyone is affected the same way by hormone levels, just as different people have different reactions to drugs. As far as I know there is actually no scientific explanation for female homosexuality, so you are correct that it doesn't REALLY apply to OP here, but given science's current understanding of the topic, the best guess is that she was affected by hormones during fetal development rather than genes. I took a course on this subject in college, so yes, unless there has been new discoveries in the few years since I took that class, I do know what I'm taking about here. Do some research and I think you'll find that I am right.
There is NO conclusive evidence to what causes homosexuality.Tests on lab mice have shown that the alteration/removal of a certain gene causes homosexual behavior. Homosexuality can be caused by multiple things. I'm surprised your "course" didn't teach you that.
There is no concrete evidence as to what specifically causes homosexuality. It's part genes, part hormones, part envoronment, part chance. There is not enough research to prove any one hypothesis over the others. Your course was based on a theory, not scientific, proven fact.
I wanted to edit my first comment instead of posting another one, the first one sounded bitchy. Apologies all around.
It sounds like she is in denial, she will be forced to accept the truth when you introduce her to a gf, I'm sorry coming out didn't go better for you.
Lesbians are not what God intended. Thats why you cannot give birth while being a lesbian or gay. Its not correct...
Oh God, here we go again.
I don't blame your mom for reacting like that to be honest. If I had a child & they told me they were gay I would have a hard time dealing with it.
There is a plus side to her saying that. At least she thinks you were "born" that way vs you "choosing" to become a lesbian. Hope she comes around soon and is supportive.(:
I find it more curious that she lives. I'm starting to doubt the evolution theory!

Well, at least you didn't get your logic from her. Clearly, you are the smarter lass.
I'm sorry, but your mother is an idiot. Or she is in denial. Either one will work.
