Today, I decided it would be funny to give my friend a peanut that had fallen on the floor. I hid it in his food, and started laughing when he ate it. It turns out he is allergic to peanuts. His family hates me now. FML

You really do deserve that. Peanut allergies are common. If I was his family, I'd hate you too for doing something like that without thinking.

YDI for not knowing, call yourself his friend?

All of the biggest YDI start with "I decided it'd be funny to..". Guess it's too hard to learn a lesson out of it already.

While this person is an idiot for this dumb prank, and probably should have known about his allergy, he/she didn't mean to almost kill the friend. Most people do not have serious food allergies. I'm sure we all have offered something with peanuts/shellfish/chocolate to someone without knowing for certain if they had an allergy. The prank was stupid, though.

Key word there is 'offered', though. When you _offer_ somebody food that they're allergic to, they have the opportunity to say "No thank you." When you hide it in food they're already eating... yeah, not so much. Dear OP: how the hell is it 'funny' to give your friend food that's been on the floor? How old are you, 8?

okay how is it funny to feed someone something of the floor. ydi for not having a good sense of humour

<_<.....>_>....* Does the peanut dance from charlie brown*

why would you hide it in his food? that's stupid. I'd just say 'you want a peanut? it's my last one' and if they say 'no, I'm allergic' then you know. and besides, why would you get a kick out of him eating a peanut even if you didn't know he's allergic. hahahaha! my friend is eating a lima bean that was on the floor and I hid it in his food!!!

That was hilarious!! Next time, put a bee down his shirt. Who ever heard of an allergy to bee stings?
