You should think about using Linux or Apple instead of windows because frankly windows is shit
Sure, and the next time you don't get a date, just become gay instead. Is's way easier
Actually you are shit. Windows is great. Apple and OSX are disgusting and overpriced
They all have their pros and cons, back to your corners.
Wow insulting someone because they don't like windows. Oh and Linux is free and is actually pretty good.
Linux is only good if you know what you're doing. Sure I'm sure there's guides and instructions out there for it but most normal people don't feel it's worth the hassle.
56 - I'm a PC user, and I know plenty of Mac users. I don't hate Mac OS X -- it's a great GUI -- but it is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced just like the rest of Apple's products. I also dislike when people are in love with Apple's products without knowing their capabilities and limitations. They always tell me that their product is superior to mine, and when I tell them my Android/PC can perform the same operation, they find something else. And then the virus argument. ><
#125 I have friends who I studied with who are software engineers in Google and in Microsoft and they ALL use Apple or Linux. None of them can stand android or windows.
Most normal people wouldn't even notice what operating system they're using as long as there are icons to launch their apps, browser etc. I've lent my computer to visitors (using a guest login) to check their email, facebook etc and they didn't notice it was running Linux rather than Windows.
Always Always Always back your files up I learned that the hard way when I deleted over 500 gigs worth of files 5 years ago. Sorry to hear you lost everything though OP. Hopefully you like Windows 10 though.
first time using a computer? y u no backup?
And let everyone working at Microsoft have a good laugh at you not backing up your files.
I would be so devastated if that happened to me and it has several times before but I think I would lose it if I lost what I had on my laptop. I upgraded my dell to the windows 10 and I hate it, but luckily I didn't lose my stuff. I'm so sorry that happened to you op, I understand how you feel.
If you think you would be devastated by the loss of your files, then back them up. At least one back-up to the cloud (iCloud, drop-box, Google-Drive or whatever) and also at least one back-up to a local storage device (external hard drive, Recordable DVD, SD card or whatever). If you don't back up and then you lose your files, you'll deserve it.
I upgraded to Windows 10 and absolutely nothing went wrong. A random error probably occurred or you might have accidently pressed something without realising it. Try to get your stuff back and get over it. I had to do that each time my memory stick became corrupted whilst doing A Level coursework.
It really depends on the computer tbh, my boyfriend's had a perfect upgrade even with an older laptop and I had to do like 10 jumps to get my wifi working again on mine. Each comp will have its own peculiarities and thus its own difficulty level. Luckily Win10 lets you revert back in case of anything, but I'm pretty happy with the change.
bingo! the PC may have shit the bed when files were backed up, he could have selected remove everything by accident the 2nd time it asks, or could have been the drive itself. the only 3 pcs ive had problems with upgrading were ones where the bios reported SMART errors beforehand (SMART is a harsware level drive heth thing
P.S.: I never got my coursework back, not any of the multiple times it became corrupted.
sorry, but YDI for not crearing a backup, that's rule number 1 whenever you make changes to your computer
Rookie mistake. I never upgrade my OS when the update first comes out. Aside from the fact that it gives me time to create an off site backup, by waiting about a month to update, it gives them(in your case, windows) a chance to issue any bug fixes

YOU HAVEN'T LOST EVERYTHING!!! in events like this Windows creates a backup. you'll find ALL your files in the "windows.old" folder. just search it up!!!
Don't trust them when it says it'll retain your old files, you need to always back up your files before upgrading or changing your OS. Sometimes Windows is nice enough to put your files in a folder on the Windows drive called "windows.old" which would be where everything you had on that drive before would be saved. However I don't know if they kept that feature in Windows 10.
