Today, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. I wanted to keep my old files on the current hard drive, I clicked on the keep old files option. Thanks to Windows, I lost everything. FML

YOU HAVEN'T LOST EVERYTHING!!! in events like this Windows creates a backup. you'll find ALL your files in the "windows.old" folder. just search it up!!!

Don't trust them when it says it'll retain your old files, you need to always back up your files before upgrading or changing your OS. Sometimes Windows is nice enough to put your files in a folder on the Windows drive called "windows.old" which would be where everything you had on that drive before would be saved. However I don't know if they kept that feature in Windows 10.

Windows 10 is spyware masquerading as an operating system - stick with Windows 7. Do a quick search for "windows 10 privacy issues" and you'll find a host of troubling bits. I hope your data is recoverable. Good luck!

That is the same crap argument people use against Facebook, just because you don't know how to use simple settings doesn't mean the OS is bad. You know there are very easy setting to disable the tracking? Also, just use a local account.

I think the FML should read, Today I got windows 10, FML

Why do people rush out and buy the newest and latest crap called windows. That’s like buying a new car and driving it into a tree or center divider. They have your money and now you are their Beta tester. Win-Win for Micro Crap, lose-lose for consumers. I’m sorry you lost info but you did it to yourself by not backing up files.

Win 10 is free if you have 7 or 8.1. It's not crap, it does everything, something your mac can't say it does. (gaming for example).

Uh... Windows 10 will not run all types of games, older releases mainly. I use dos boxer and play older freeware/shareware games because I enjoy solving puzzles on my Mac and indie releases that have Mac/pc compatibility. I hate it when people claim that there are no games to play on a Mac, there are also newer games to be found. I have a Mac and a pc for different purposes, the Mac will not run ms access, that's the only program I lack.

I know exactly what you mean. I play obscure QBASIC games from 1993 in a VM running Windows 3.1. I hate it when people say games are only made for their latest and greatest OS. There are two, maybe three games that I can run on my setup! I can even run Zork!

81 - It won't but it will run emulators for the really old systems. Also gog releases older games but fixed to work on newer systems.

Never upgrade without backup and that goes with any OS.

Should of used their drive that's what I did didn't lose anything. YDI

Backing up your files weekly - if not daily for critical files e.g., at least email o yourself or Google Drive/ MS SkyDrive - much less before an OS upgrade is always prudent. Also create a partition image monthly :-)

I don't know man, my windows 10 upgrade went pretty smooth

YDI for both not having a backup, and also for probably lying. There's been no proven cases of this happening in millions of upgrades.
