I did it just fine, hahahahaha life sucks for you
I've been debating whether or not to upgrade to Windows 10. This decided for me. Thanks!
This didn't happen to me when I upgraded to Windows 10. I actually prefer it to Windows 8.1. I haven't really had any problems with it.
don't base you upgrading off one person. this is one person who had a bad experience screaming louder than everyone who didn't have a problem
Yes, but their experience was losing everything. Kind of a big risk to take. I've only heard of one person who had a burglary, but I still lock my doors and windows.
But this is like hearing of a burglary so not buying a house in the first place! If you're worried just back your files up first. Unless you're particularly (peculiarly) attached to Windows 8.
But this isn't the only person I've read from having trouble with Windows 10. I've read a lot more issues on Reddit and Tumblr. I've also read you have to purchase a $15 app to play DVDs. I can already play DVDs for free with Windows 8. That alone makes it a no for me.
I've also read Windows 10 shares your Wi-Fi password with/on Facebook. If I wanted everyone to invade my privacy, I'd just give someone the key to my house.
the install walks you through all that sharing bs to easily clock "off". the fb wifi. uses ur fb friends accounts to remember them as "guests" to your network. so there is none of that "whats ur wifi pass?". still just click "off". i personally liked the walkthrough to personalize it. idk if win 8 does it but, dont make a Microsoft account on 10, unless u wish to always login in to use it
88, you're being dumb. First, you should always back up your data before an upgrade. That is the best practice. Secondly, iirc you get the dvd app free if you upgrade from 7. You would have needed a seperate app in 8 as well. There are plenty of free options too. Lastly, you can disable the sharing feature in the settings, and it SHOULD be disabled by default. (i've heard 50/50 on this)
You listen to idiots. It definitely does not broadcast your Wi-Fi password anywhere.
I'd be upgrading from 8, not 7. Yeah, I use a separate app in 8, but I never had to pay for it. I don't have any particular attachment to Windows 8. The only reason I even have Windows 8 is I bought a new computer. Otherwise, I would've kept Windows 7 because I hate Windows 8's "tablet" look. Ironically, after reading all of these comments, I read about someone's computer suddenly becoming incredibly slow and lagging a lot after upgrading. Too many problems with Windows 10 I've been reading about. Way too many. So thanks, but still no.
Even if all the problems you're reading about 10 are general and not just isolated incidents, it's still better than the garbage that is Windows 8.
Anything after Windows 7 is garbage.
You were one of the people that clung to XP to the bitter end arent you? Anyway, if youbalready have an app to play DVDs, why would you automatically assume it will go away after the upgrade? It's probably PowerDVD or something that the manf. provided with the PC. If thays the case, it should be fine.
Only until I got Windows 7. Then, I stuck with that until I bought another computer and got stuck with Windows 8. I never assumed it'd go away. I assumed the $15 app Windows 10 requires was necessary. I actually have the upgrade ready to download and install. I reserved an upgrade I did want to update it at first. After reading all the problems everyone else had (including this person) and finding out about the app and wi-fi password, as well as some people having security issues, I changed my mind.
Are you trying to play DVDs or burn them? You don't need a fancy app just to play them... Windows Media Player is enough for that (though vlc is way better).
TBH Windows 10 sucks, I prefer the old one wayy better. Thats sucks though OP hope you can recover it somehow.
You prefer W8 to W10? Why? I'm curious.
Funny people referring to Win8 as 'the old one'...
First off, always back up your stuff. Second, Windows 10 was the worst thing i've done all year.
Windows 10 is an awesome OS. The only problems that I've heard people have with it are 1. "Bugs" which are almost always because they're running software that hasn't been updated for Windows 10 or because they assume something is a bug when they really just don't know what they're doing. 2. People complain about Windows 10 collecting data, but you can minimize that with their settings, or just Google a simple guide on how to turn it off in your registry.
well said. most comaints I hear are people who are clueless or using craptastic hardware and software if not just whinkng because it looms different.
You believed Windoze. YDI
System recovery...next time invest in a two terabyte external hard drive...it takes awhile but drag and drop everything on that update then drag and drop it all back on...
That's like throwing everything out of the window... Hoping someone could catch the stuff...you have to take a backup before doing upgrade
More like out the "Windows" amirite?
I'm glad you posted that. now everyone will know to backup their files before they upgrade.

YOU HAVEN'T LOST EVERYTHING!!! in events like this Windows creates a backup. you'll find ALL your files in the "windows.old" folder. just search it up!!!
Don't trust them when it says it'll retain your old files, you need to always back up your files before upgrading or changing your OS. Sometimes Windows is nice enough to put your files in a folder on the Windows drive called "windows.old" which would be where everything you had on that drive before would be saved. However I don't know if they kept that feature in Windows 10.
