Today, I fed my 4ft python a live rat for the first time. He now has a new friend he won't let me near. FML

the snake is not dead or bitten. I knew what I was doing and the rat is dead and eaten. they were all buddy for a matter of 20 minutes.

Your Phyton is probably not hungry right now or something is wrong with his stomach

As soon as he gets hungry he'll eat it, so unless the rat shows signs he wants to bite your Python I wouldn't worry

The hierarchy of affection here is both extremely strange and really amusing. Oh, America....

Live food is better than the snake starving but should only be done before force feeding, not just for the fun of it. If the snake doesn't eat it, you need to take the rat out because they can be really dangerous and cause a lot of damage to the snake.

Sure he does, until he gets hungry. Then he'll have his new friend over for lunch.

I want to make a witty dating joke but... rats got my tongue... (but hopefully not the snakes)

What makes something more lovable? Fur? Mammaries? Affection is a matter of circumstance. If you get yourself a neat little reptilian friend that is all cool and slithery, you'll love him. If you get yourself a cute little ball of fur with twitchy wats, you'll love him. If you come across a snake in the underbrush of a weekend hike, you'll kick the little ******. Who says what we can and can't have affection for? I say better a snake than a body pillow. Snakes are badass.

Have you not seen videos of people in other countries where people live with snakes crawling about their homes? Such as regions in India. Americans aren't the only ones.

man up and take the rat out... if you are afraid of your snake then get something else. if you work with cats you will get scratched eventually. if you work with dogs you will get bit or scratched at some point... same goes with reptiles.... it is very dangerous to leave a live rat unsupervised with your snake....the rat can sever his spine in a second... or even gouge open his belly or crack his skull if he gets the head.... sorry to be graphic but you should know whAt can happen to your snake
