Today, I finally decided to get a dog. I have always been wanting to get one ever since I was a child. I bought a $1,400 Golden Retriever. I went out for lunch a few hours later with a friend, so I left my dog in the backyard. I came back home to a broken fence and no dog. FML

Why didn't you tie it up? If it was a new pet, you don't know how it's going to react. YDI for not making sure it was secure!

dont have kids, please you cant even take care of a dog...

Wouldn't you have stayed home with the dog if it was it's first day in a new enviornment?

I agree with 25. and why did you spend so much money on a dog?

You should've adopted, you ******* prick.

Why would you pay all that money for a dog when you can adopt one from the pound who would otherwise be killed?

1400 for a dog? I recently got a pure-bred dog from a private breeder for just 200, I don't think this is true. You can usually find golden retrievers(or similar) at shelters, too. Not worth the trouble/extra cash to get it from a breeder. Regardless if this is true YDI

I agree with #126 Mutts are way healthier

You deserve it for being stupid enough to pay $1,400 for a dog from a breeder when you can SAVE a dog from being killed at a shelter for $50.

Well that was stupid. A) If it's a brand new dog it doesn't know it's surroundings yet. B) With a price tag like $1,400 I'll assume you bought it from a breeder, which means it was probably suffering separation anxiety from it's siblings and mother so OF COURSE it's going to want to run away from the person who leaves it all alone. C) You could've tethered it or better yet crated it inside so that it could learn the new sights and smells of you & your property. D) A new pet is a big commitment/responsibility. If you really HAD to have lunch you could've invited that friend over to your house and not left your dog behind. The dog getting to know you in the first couple of days that you have him/her are the most vital days in your entire relationship. If I were the dog I would've run away too.
