Today, I finished the first month of a diet and exercise program designed to help me lose weight. To keep myself motivated, I have avoided the scale the entire time. I weighed myself today. I've gained 6 pounds. FML

Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat, it's more dense than fat. You would not have gained 6 pounds of pure muscle in a month, either. That said, you should really take some measurements and go get your body fat tested if you can afford it. Losing weight is tough! Also, track your food and make sure you are really in a deficit.

Yeah, that's what people meant. Is OP not heavier, but just "more dense" than Kate Moss?

Have a cheeseburger, it'll make you feel better

If you are getting slimmer then that means it's muscle since muscle weighs more than fat, you'll gain a lot of muscle but you'll but skinnier =]

LOL, you should do what ShayCarl does and motivate yourself to lose those couple of pounds

measure inches around instead, plus make sure you are eating healthy and not in excess, you may be eating thousands of empty calories, or just way too much!

sometimes you gain weight before you lose it. don't get discouraged :)

Muscle weighs way more than fat does... Just saying. Congrats on making it a month!! Most people give up early.

Exactly 99! BMI doesn't take muscle into account at ALL so it'll say someone is overweight when they're perfectly healthy.
