Just because your situation would be "worse" doesn't necessarily make Op's better. Either way, you didn't find the money, OP did, and it's unfortunate that even though he/she found the $100, his /her mom is ignorant and thinks she deserves any of it.

Same. My "friend" wanted $10 out of the $20 I found because she called me to meet her so if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have found it. I didn't give her, I found it myself with my eyes not with her guidance.

F the life of the person who lost it. If you were just outside, I understand holding on to it, but if you were in a store, restaurant, place of business, etc, I'd hope you'd turn it in to someone in case the person it belongs to came back looking for it. I've done that before, and found the person came back for it.
