Today, I found a diamond on the floor, which I could only assume was from one of my brother's cheap earrings. I was positive that it was fake. To prove it to myself, I ran it across my window, as they say only real diamonds cut glass. It's real. FML

Today, I found an unfamiliar ring in my purse. Thinking it was fake, I gave it to a little girl. Thanks to my mother, I later found out that the ring was my grandmother's and it was made of gold and had a real ruby. My mother added that my grandmother trusted me to keep it in our family. FML

Today, I asked my girlfriend about a diamond necklace I bought her for her birthday, which she didn't seem to be wearing. She then told me she hocked it to pay for her inexpensive phone bill. I paid $1,500 for that necklace, she received $300 from the pawn shop. FML

Today, we got a diamond delivered to our house. I was super confused until my husband admitted he’d taken the ashes of his grandparents and parents, my mom and my grandparents', and my auntie's, mixed them all together and sent them to one of those diamond making companies. I’m divorcing him. FML

Lol at the comments, floating in water wtf?! As a gemmologist I can assure you that anything over a 7 on the Moh's hardness scale will scratch glass, yes that includes a very large range of synthetics(Cubic zirconia, Moissanite etc) so it should come as no surprise you put a nice scratch on your window! You really want to find out if it's a diamond? Put it table(top) down on a piece of medium-fine sandpaper, which is generally made of silica carbide(about 9-9.5 Mohs) and give it a few wipes along that, if you see any abrasions at all or feel it grind along, it's fake. It still could be a synthetic diamond, which you would need a pro to determine, but lets just say that if you found this "diamond" in your house, and it's bigger than 5mm, its fake.
