Today, I found a diamond on the floor, which I could only assume was from one of my brother's cheap earrings. I was positive that it was fake. To prove it to myself, I ran it across my window, as they say only real diamonds cut glass. It's real. FML

YDI for being mean to your brother. Give him his earring back.

sell it and pay for a new window...duh

Diamond isn't the only substance that cuts glass. Some cubic zirconia (most of the "fake" looking diamonds) are strong enough to cut glass as well. The chemical makeup of cubic zirconia is different than that of diamond, but the durability of each are almost the same. Even looking at both structures under a microscope, someone might get the two confused, due to the similarities they share.. So your brothers stone might be a cubic zirconia after all...talk to a jeweler about it

A lot of things can scratch glass. Even gold, I know from experience with scratched counter tops at the jewelery store I work at. Cases with all gold stuff get scratched from it all the time, and gold is not even very hard. And BTW, if you were so positive it was fake why did you need to test it?

HOW IS THIS AN FML IF YOU HAVE A DIAMOND

You can cut glass with a number of things, including another piece of glass. But I don't know if a fake diamond (cubic zirconia) can, because I don't want to waste my time looking it up on Google. :)
