Today, I found an injured rabbit by the side of the road. I was about to take it to the local vet, when my husband picked it up and casually snapped its neck. "No rabbit's worth my money" he said, forgetting that he's been a jobless moocher for over 3 years. Pass me the goddamn divorce papers. FML

No need for divorce papers. Just throw him into a sarlacc pit. World: improved.

The big difference is that he didn't do it out of mercy, but selfishness and with a clear lack of empathy. And if the vet couldn't take care of it they probably would've called a wildlife rehab place.

while in one way that may of been the best thing to do as it may of been in a lot of pain, he clearly didnt do it to save it from its misery...which makes it pure murder of the animal rather than a mercy death...divorce...

I have a pet bunny, who's very much loved by myself, my friends and my family; and I feel a bit upset and sick reading this! Unless it was a spine or neck injury, I can understand the rabbit has to be killed, but it should be brought to a vet to do it humanely, but other than that, it could have been saved! Poor thing! It's none of anyone's business (including the husband) what you spend your money on OP, but the husband obviously wants the money to be spent on himself, since he's a big mooching prick.

I promise you - a clinic will put an animal down if the cost of de-ticking, flea treatments and grooming is too high on a stray dog or cat. A broken leg or open wound, considering all the diseases rabbits can carry when wild, is far beyond the risk any clinic is willing to take. I have had two separate clinics tell me with two different stray cats, over the phone, that just by my description they would put it down. They have next to no money as it is and people think they can just absorb the costs as if it is no big deal and it just doesn't work that way. It's a business at the end of the day - handing out free care to half-dead wild animals isn't exactly a profit making practice. I'm not saying this to be mean but it is true.

I'm not sure about where you're from, but I have friends who have brought wild birds, feral cats (which get neutered while they're treated), fox cubs, etc. to vets or animal sanctuaries to be treated and I've seen many news stories on local news channels about people bringing many species of wildlife to animal sanctuaries to be treated before releasing them back into the wild, they completely rely on donations from people, but they always say they never put an animal down unless absolutely necessary. Rabbits don't carry much disease (not many zoonotic diseases anyways, except salmonella, which you can get from ALL animals anyways, or unless you get a scratch from a dirty paw and you don't wash the wound), except for myxamatosis and RHD which are both usually rabbit-to-rabbit and the vaccination for these is quite cheap (my vet charges €10 annually for my bun). Ireland cares tremendously about it's wildlife, I'll give it that much.

I have personally experienced the exact opposite. I live in the country surrounded by wildlife, a massive part of my life, and no sanctuary or clinic here will waste tax payers money, their own time or anyone else's by pretending that a single wild rabbit's existence matters. I hate to say it, as well, but there is a significant chance that all those friends were told the animals would be saved and simply weren't. It's easier to say "we'll save it, thank you" than explain to an animal lover that they can't justify the cost. I don't intend to come across brash or rude but it's true, at least in my experiences in Maine and Florida.

I don't think I've read a FML that made me react the way this one did. I don't even have the words.... Lady, if you don't divorce him I'll take a plane to your place & make you. My god that must've been horrific! Poor bunny....

Really? Divorce? People are so immature! You got more problems if you thinking divorce after this.. He was preparing dinner.. Nuff said..

if you divorce him you will have too pay alimony. get him drunk and sign him up for the army.

Don't divorce him. Just hit him with your car and then say "no man is worth my money" before snapping his neck.

I would have done the same thing then silently got into the car and drove hom3 why would it even matter its going to die anyways proboly on the way to the vet but on the way there it would suffer yeah he is a dick for doing out of selfishness

What a ******* psychopath! Never trust someone who hurts or kills animals. If he sets something on fire next, you know you gotta run...

So I hunt for food. My family is poor - we grow vegetables and hunt for meat. I kill them with no remorse, go elbow deep cleaning them out, butcher and freeze them. Sometimes when I walk up to a felled deer it is still alive and I'll put it out of it's misery. I'm not trustworthy?

Jesus out of all things to snap a neck... A bunny ******* hell you savage

Apparently all the emo-girls and hipster loser guys are the only ones commenting this morning. I have no issue with saying he's a deadbeat etc.He could have got a job of some sort. However, the whole rabbit thing? Seriously? Almost every comment that says anything like he put it out of misery is buried. guy is from Texas. They have a strong hunting heritage. He snapped its neck. He didn't stomp on it. He did put it out of its misery. No animal shelter will take a wild rabbit. They carry too many diseases, are way to hard to heal, and the shelters have razor thin budgets. If they did, it would be to humor you, and then they would put it down. TX wildlife mgmt would do the same thing, just wait till you crybabies were out of site. What a bunch ofbleeding hearts. Do you stop for every squirrel in the road? Bottom line: If it was injured by the side of the road, it was involved with a car. Its a goner. If he did not kill it, a coyote or hawk would have eaten it alive and it would have suffered more. I am betting that all of the comments who called him a savage are the type who have never hunted, and would freak if a cute little mouse got in their house.

Amen. I have lived my life surrounded by nature and I absolutely love and respect every animal I come across but I am a realist and not some city-dwelling, brainless millennial. It's easier for a vet to say "We can save it" when they are just going to kill it than explain to a bleeding heart that it's not in their budget to save a single, wild rabbit. These people scare me, frankly. Are they that disconnected from reality? The guy is definitely a dick but only because of what he said and NOT what he did.
