Today, I found my daughter sobbing and trying to stick a wad of gauze to her vagina. She was having her first period. FML

um, maybe you shouldve taught her about her about her body?

**** your daughters life. I'm a guy and I can't imagine bleeding out in my genital area and not knowing what the ***** going on just imagine all the things that could be going through her head. I'd do more than cry. You should have taught her about periods atleast. I can't blame you though because she might still be young and you couldn't have known that it would come so soon

yet another example of our piss poor sex ed system. Really its more of an FML for your daughter though. Almost sounds like she thought she was injured. It's the parent's job to teach their child, especially if the shool won't.

My mum was always open about everything, and even bought me child friendly books on periods and sex. I started at 11 and told her straight away because I felt comfortable to do so. It's the best way to be imho.

If you never taught her about periods, YDI. My mother (although a wonderful mother in all other respects) never taught me about periods or sex. If I hadn't learned about it at school, I would've been absolutely terrified when I got my first period. However, it is possible that OP has taught her daughter about periods and the daughter just panicked when it actually happened. I learned all about periods from school and books but I still got very upset when it actually happened to me.

The help her. Maybe you should have told her about periods before it came to this.

Um, how is this an f your life? I guess it really sucks that now you have to teach your daughter something about periods and calm her down?

I was 13 when I got my first period. I was so prepared that I had a pad on already because I felt stomach cramps. My mom taught me about these things since I first asked about them when I was 7. It's not something girls should have to be afraid of.

...Didn't you ever explain to her that this would happen? I would freak out too! So would any human ever.

Back in the '50's my aunt started hers. My Grandma bought her a box of Kotex. When she finished, she gave the box back to my Grandma telling her, "Keep them for next time." My aunt asked, "You mean this is gonna happen AGAIN?!?"

Hahaha. A young girl was upset and/or scared because she suddenly started bleeding from her genitals. Hilarious. Poor girl.

Everyone is being very cruel to the OP here. I was told about periods and all that when I was about 11/12 when my mother gave me sex ed books to read. I expected just a few dots of blood or the same amount of blood that would come out of a cut or small wound...I found out the horrid truth when I was 15 when I found Lucifer's waterfall in my undies one morning and was fully convinced I was gonna die from bleeding out. People are too quick to judge!
