Take it back and write something about 'a big secret' and see how long it takes for your mum to ask you about it.

Talk to her about respecting your privacy

It's like reality tv but not bad for your eyes... Or brain.

I know how you feel OP, my mom did the same with mine. Either confront her about it or keep a super secret hidden one I guess.

I keep my diary on a site that allows you the option of locking the entry and I just don't tell anyone about so no one can find it.

I'm so glad my parents never pulled crap like this!

When I was younger, this happened to me as well. I took it back and same day both my parents came to ask me about stuff I wrote in it. Who is that person? Why did you do that? Why didn't you tell us? ..etc. Today I live alone and almost 30, and Dad read some of my stuff online, and it was almost the same thing, blaming, accusing, fearing, suspecting. etc. The only way to stop this from happening is acknowledging that what you wrote there was your own private conversation with yourself, no one else was invited to read this except you, so don't discuss it and don't allow a discussion to happen around it. You choose to keep it private and your decision has to be respected.

Haha! I remember finding out that my parents were reading my diary. I was probably 10 or so. I actually used that knowledge to my advantage. I managed to manipulate them into bringing about some changes without actually saying anything, and was able to construct an image of my self and behavior that they would approve of. Of course, I also started a second, personal diary that I passed off as "a writing project." As a secondary precautionary measure, I also came up with my own personal language to use in said "writing project." I started with creating my own alphabet, then moved on to the actual language building. Here's a sample of what I came up with (minus the new alphabet): "Sha lanka hroo lavit simra." Which means, "I love my beautiful sister." And as a bonus, you can also speak your personal language whenever you feel like confusing people, like telemarketers. Teach it to someone else, and "Voila!" you have a confidant. I know I still use these methods to this very day. I hope this post provides some useful advice.

So much win! And here I went the boring route of making hidden pockets in my dresser...
