Today, I found out my identity was stolen. The person got credit cards in my name and didn't pay the bills, which has ruined my near perfect credit. The worst part about all of this is that I can't turn the person in. It's my mom, and sending her to jail wouldn't really work out for anyone. FML

thats probably why she does what she does. If we didnt have consequences for breaking the law do you really think people would follow them as much as we do now?

Wow, I'm going to have to say YDI for not turning someone in who is stealing your identity. Mom or not, she NEEDS to be reported for stealing your identity.

I'm in the same situation. even if you file police reports, she HAS to admit to it, and take responsibility. Everyone saying 'turn her in' doesn't understand that doesn't necessarily DO anything. The whole 'innocent until proven guilty' problem. And even if the Mom used her own address, and not the OP< the Mom can say the OP asked to use it, or that the OP did it without asking and the Mom had no idea about it. Even if it's connected to the Mom's bank account, they have to prove everything. It sucks. And then they get mad because 'How does your Mom know your social? No one should know it!" Uhm, usually the parents apply when the child is born. Either way it's beyond hard as ****, and I feel REALLY bad for you OP, cause like I said, I'm in the same situation, and it's about $60K right now...

The fact that it is going to be an uncomfortable situation is WHY you should turn her in to the cops. The rest of your family needs to deal with the fact that she did this, as well as that she deserves to be punished.
