You're absolutely correct: people /are/ dumb. The incest taboo (as in, the one that makes you think it's gross to be with your own family, not as in the one in society at large, though they're obviously related) doesn't make distinctions for genetics. Basically, grow up closely to someone from a young age => incest taboo. It may not be incest genetically, but in OP's mind, it still is, and that's what makes the FML.
