Today, I found out that my Mum has spent the money she's been saving for my wedding on moving house. She called saving for a wedding for me a 'pointless cause' as it's probably never going to happen now. I'm only 22. FML

Well... You're 22 and seemingly not in a meaningful relationship? If you're going to be way older when you get married (30+), it seems reasonable to assume you'll pay for it yourself.

Today I found out that I will have to pay for my own adult social events. Just start saving money then OP. You're a big girl.

so your mother should spend HER money on whatever SHE wants. from the way you wrote the FML, it's not like you are engaged and in the process of planning your wedding anyways. so quit your whingeing OP, and leave your mother alone. she's looked after you long enough, hasn't she? pay for your own friggin' wedding if you ever do have one!

Ugh, why is everyone sounding bitchy today? She could pay for it, and now will someday, but she was counting on her mom helping out, and is now disappointed. Not to hard, and most would be disappointed if they thought their future wedding would be payed for, then find out it won't be. Not tragic, but disappointing. The OP probably already knows everything you said. Ignorance irritates me.

I'd say the actual FML is the fact that the OP is only 22 and her mother has decided that since she isn't married already it's never going to happen.

I'm tired of the word "ignorance" being thrown around. Please look up the definition, read sample sentences, then USE it. 50: #16 just interpreted the situation differently and gave his/her opinion on it. How you think that makes him/her ignorant, I have no clue.

one just because your a woman doesnt mean you have to get married thats stupid. second 22 is way to young anyway

Who says 22 is too young? My parents married at 21 and have been happily married for nearly 30 years now. For some people 22 might be too young, I understand that, but not for everyone.

It's pointless that people spend so much money on their wedding anyway!

Pay for your own wedding. You're an adult; it's time you stopped relying on your parents.

Crikey! After buying you a new car, paying for university, and keeping you alive all these years, your Mum really took the piss out of you with this one. What a load of bollocks!

The average age of getting married for women is 27. By that age, you should have enough to buy a simple dress, have a bridesmaid, rent a small place of worship/registry office and pay for a small reception. FFS, you can get very nice dresses at Asda for £50.

interesting. I'm 27. I'm also a widow about to get married formula second time. fyi I got married the first time when I was 22. my mum bought my dress & made the cake. we paid for the rest.

Cue the endless number of posts saying 'Wah, wah, wah, my parents never paid for anything and made me live in a cupboard under the stairs, so therefore no-one else's parents are allowed to pay for anything ever.'

Why should your mother pay for your wedding if you're an adult? Selfish brat..
