Today, I found out that the engineers I work with believe that a woman with an engineering degree working in an engineering company is apparently equivalent to a "secretary for engineers." I am that woman. FML

Today, within the span of one day, the owner of the business I work at said I could write "Technical & Compliance Manager" on paperwork where I was the approver for engineered compliance of product regulatory records, but also that I was "basically just a secretary." FML

Today, I was conducting a meeting regarding safety concerns on my field site. While I made a comment, a client rep yelled out that women don't know construction, and that I should be acting like a proper secretary and should get my boss. I'm the Construction Manager. FML

Today, I started work as the head engineer for a big civil engineering project. I met the rest of my team, in particular the environmental engineer who I'll need to get along with the most. As it turns out, I took her virginity when we were freshmen in college. She still thinks I'm an asshole. FML

Data engineer struggles

Today, I told my supervisor that I want to do the work I was hired to do, which is Data Engineer. He told me he doesn't have the workload for another data engineer, and needs someone with people skills. He's very happy with the current situation. I left my previous job because of the same problem. FML

YDI for having ovaries. Don't buy into that "show them up" nonsense--you'll then become the office smart-arse and become an even bigger target of resentment. Ignore it--they'll either wise up or they won't. Earn their respect by being part of the team.

Please, I just opened a law firm and am forced to handle such duties myself. When ever you are new you will be forced to complete menial tasks. Those tasks will help you learn the business completely and allow you to become an asset to your company. Stop being the sterotypical complaining woman and do what it takes to earn respect in business. It is cut throat out there no matter which gender you may be!
