Today, I found out that the girl I tutored in high school in basic ENGLISH just received her PhD in Biophysics. I am now the manager of a McDonald's. I was also the Valedictorian of our graduating class. FML

LOL #1. You do know that Biophysics doesn't have that much of a correlation to English, right? You should get up and DO something about your situation instead at looking at what others are doing.

at least you're manager and not an employee :D

This proves that school smarts don't mean SHIT.

Oh yeah, cuz you know, a PhD is biophysics has nothing to do with school. Dumbass

except they do. or else that other girl couldn't have gotten a PhD in Biophysics. They don't just HAND those out, you know. idiot

Of course not but high school is very study based. It hardly requires any sort of special intelligence at all. Nothing in high school (because of the nature of the material presented) is too hard. Anyone who works their butts off studying definitions and doing homework in high school could pull off being the valedictorian. (as long as it's based on gpa)..But even the ACT/SAT is also a lot of memorization (regardless of an aptitude claim) The same doesnt always work in college... Some degrees actually require that extra 'click' or geuine interest to make happen. As well as 'learning' not just 'memorizing. English is a syntax based subject, the grammar and 'learning' invovled is basicaly memorizing.... The same cannot be said for some problems in Biophysics.

YDI for not having the mental acuity required to be a Sandwich Artist.

Then get off your ass and work at getting a PhD.

do something about it instead of comparing yourself to others

What is the point in being a valedictorian if your not even gonna go to college

Don't worry about it. You said she just got her PhD, that doesn't mean she's got a job to go with it. I know more than a few people with degrees, including one with a PhD that have jobs that pay like crap and have nothing to do with their degrees. At least as a McD's manager you get that company car, right?

Biophysics (or at least medical physics) actually has a huge job market depending on what she is doing....

yep. that's what he'll say at his high school reunion. I can see it now... " Yea, you all may have those fancy-like PhD's but looks who's driving the Oscar Mayer Wiener van. PWN"

it sucks to look at it that way, but truth be told its your fault that you stayed in such a low-income job- do something about it now, before you waste any more time in a job and lifestyle that you are not happy with. And good for that other girl.. it seems like she actually tried to accomplish things in her life that she can be proud of. YDI

working at mcdonalds is way harder than what the other girl is doing.

Ever been a female graduate student in the hard sciences? I thought not. Don't talk.

YDI because I like turtles.

Funny. I worked at Burger King for 2 years. During part of that, I worked under 3 managers that had college degrees. A diploma's just a piece of paper if nobody's hiring.

YDI. If you don't like where you are in life, go do something about it instead of whining on the internet.
