Today, I found out that the girl I tutored in high school in basic ENGLISH just received her PhD in Biophysics. I am now the manager of a McDonald's. I was also the Valedictorian of our graduating class. FML

LOL #1. You do know that Biophysics doesn't have that much of a correlation to English, right? You should get up and DO something about your situation instead at looking at what others are doing.

at least you're manager and not an employee :D

I created an account just to say that this is the most depressing FML that I've read so far. I'm about to graduate with an English Degree, see you at McDonalds.

you could go to a great college, not be a manager at mcdonalds. DUMBASS.

YDI. For implying that someone with English as a second language is some how intellectually inferior. Plus everyone else is right, you ultimately decide whether you beat the odds and overcome obstacles.

Yeah, life has a way of doing that sometimes. Movitation is your friend! Instead of posting an FML, go apply for your degree! You can do it!

It all comes down to drive.... she has it, and your stuck fixing crap rating food. YDI for lacking motivation.

Even if the person wasn't foreign, some people just do not do well in English. I knew 10 or so people who tested into Honors Calculus at my college and failed their English placement tests! They were in remedial English yet in a high entry level math course! If you do not have the drive or the interest in learning, you can never do well in a specific field. Our top grads went to school for an undecided major and couldn't figure out what they wanted to do with their lives. Ultimately, they just moved back home.

Well, she probably didn't waste her time on FML whining about how her life sucks. So, YDI.

If you tutored her in "basic" English, I'm assuming it wasn't her first language. I really hate it when people act like ability to speak English is a measure of intelligence, when there are all kinds of very smart people all over the world, doing important research or writing amazing novels, who don't speak English at all. Moreover, being a valedictorian doesn't mean anything. So you got good grades in high school, so what? It's what you do afterwards that counts. That girl worked hard to get her PhD. I'm not seeing any reason to believe that you worked hard. YDI.
