Today, I got a job selling knives. I had training for 11 hours. At the end of the training session, the instructor promptly informed everyone that they had to pay $145 for a set of demo knives. I paid the $145. I went home and learned that it was a scam. I went back for a refund. They said no. FML

This reminds me of a time I was walking home and saw some graffiti on a wooden fence: **** Cutco! HAHAHAH!

You deserved it. No matter how legal you make multi-level marketing, it's a scam. You probably had to pay for training too. You won't make any money. My friend who did this wound up spending more money on gas driving between appointments than the ever made.

Sounds like Vector/Cutco. It's not so much a scam persay but that marketing agency SUCKS. And i bet only 15 out of 100 people actually have any luck making profit. Last year i gave them my name and number then i decided i didn't want to work with them. They called me 4x a week that summer. leaving me the worst voicemails. you could tell they were reading it off a paper word by word. i refused to respond though so fml for those

If that's your job, commuting is a tax write off. And yeah, scammers usually don't give you your money back.

I've gotten this BS before. Bottom line it, you shouldn't have to pay to work.

Exactly. If they want money before they've given you any, it's either a scam or just very risky.

Wait.... so you realized you were being scammed and STILL went and asked for a refund? lolwut What part of scam dont you understand?

You found out it was a scam, and you asked for a refund? Do you not understand what a scam is?

I know for a fact Vector Marketing lets convicted felons sell knives. Scam or not, Vector is bad news.

I worked for them about 2 summers ago and found it really odd that they didn't do in-depth background checks. When I was "shadowing" my manager to become an assistant manager, I had to check all the application forms. I found one who checked "YES" under "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" When I pointed that out to my manager, he told me not to worry about it... fortunately, I didn't stay there long enough to find out whether that particular individual was "hired" or not. But anyway, I am not going to bash nor praise Vector/Cutco. The knives do sell themselves, but it is A LOT of work. I made an okay amount of money, I mean I didn't work as HARD because it was just a side job (2nd one too), something to do over the summer. I wasn't looking to staying there forever and have it become my career. And OP, I don't know how every Vector branches work but for our demo kits, our $147 (or whatever it was) was refundable. We had the option of keeping it, which I did so I won't have to worry about cutlery when living on my own. Like some commenters said, hopefully you went to a higher manager and told them about your situation! Sorry for the novel...but best of luck to anyone out there still working with Vector!
