If there isn't a hobo involved, I believe that herpes is and always will be an FML. Although who knows; maybe OP likes hobos.

What is there to elaborate? I took a chance with a witty comment, and it turned out to be a miss. The attempted joke was that if you choose to sleep with hobos, you deserve herpes. Nothing against hobos or the people who go head to headboard with them. I could have done better, but I WAS half asleep.

I agree. For example they could have just been having unprotected sex with a bunch of strangers (ydi), or their SO could have cheated and gave it to them (fml). Not enough information to judge.
