OP could've used a condom for all we know. Herpes can be spread through skin to skin contact.

1 and 5 people have herpes. So unless you are going to avoid 25% of the population, the chances of having come into contact of someone with herpes, is high. The chances of contracting herpes from someone taking retrovirals is less than 1%. There are not enough details to the FML to decide what's up but my guess is that the OP was not in a committed relationship. Most of those people know what's up. I would still say you shouldn't be sleeping around and should always use a condom.
