Today, I got a ticket for having my brights on. The street was pitch black and it was 1:30 in the morning. FML

yeah, it turns out that even if it's dark out, you're still supposed to turn off your brights when you meet another car. driver's ed drop out? this is probably the same person that drives in the rain with no headlights on and wipers going mach 10. "Why do I need to turn on my lights? I can see where I'm going." YDI

no, you should actually never use brights in fog...

if it's a residential street, you're supposed to turn them down.

regardless #58... if the question is safety it was safer to have then on then off. solid and valid argument to fight it. I know I am a cop.

#62 Highbeams do not equal regular headlights which are all that should be needed on a residential street.

Erm, no. I can barely see down the road with regular lights. If an animal were sitting on the road, I would surely hit it. High-beams are made for a reason - to light up darker areas where regulars wouldn't be sufficient enough.

Highbeams are regular lights, the other ones are just dip lights. :D Sorry, living in the country, I just see it that way.

wouldn't have happened if you were riddick

If you'd turned your brights down for the few seconds it would have taken for the oncoming police car to pass, you would have been golden. Police officers are drivers, too, and deserve not to be blinded by brights just as much as anyone else.

sure ydi. I guess you don't know what it's like driving at night and being nearly blinded by an oncoming car with brights on. it's ok to turn on your brights on dark roads, but turn it off as soon as you see another car coming to you. which you obviously didn't if you were pulled over for it.

Since he said it was pitch black, I'm going to assume it was not a residential area, which means no streetlights. What if the police officer was on the side of the road with no lights on? FYL, man.
