Today, I got a ticket for speeding in a school zone. The school hasn't even been built yet. FML

Most officers I know are reasonable and respectable. The few who aren't ruin the reputation of the rest, similar to the idiots who ruin it for those who have some small amount of common sense.

YDI if there were signs up,,,.the law is the law. FYL if no signs up, then fight the ticket.

How you drive now will be how you drive in the future

If there are signs saying school zone, then it's a school zone irregardless of whether the school is built yet in which case YDI. If not then contest the fine. On the other hand... I have different fingers

It's still a school zone if the sign says it is. They're getting everyone adjusted to slowing down there so some dick who didn't know the school was done and opened won't blast through there and take out some kids. Also, it's probably a construction zone too.

Agreed. If there are signs posted, then you should obey them. It does not matter if the school is finished or not.

At least in Illinois, School Zone speed limits only apply on days when school is in session and kids are present. At all other times, the normal speed limit for that street applies.

someone had to decide that there is where the school would be built, before it was actually done. YDI
