Most officers I know are reasonable and respectable. The few who aren't ruin the reputation of the rest, similar to the idiots who ruin it for those who have some small amount of common sense.

OP I voted YDI on this, because 1) if it's not a school zone it's a construction zone 2) you should get used to not speeding in that zone

Why? And to what purpose? Op purposefully ignored a speed-limit, whether it is a useful or correct speed limit is not up for discussion. If you don't agree with a speed limit, you go to city hall (or wherever you would go in other countries for such a thing), you don't go speeding...

And the 'goddamn signs' always read "during restricted hours." A driver can do 35 on 35-limit street through a school zone in the middle of the night, and also during the day on weekends. If the school isn't in session, there is no school zone.

OP got this fml idea from an old tv show where at the end of one episode buck Owens plays "I got a tiger by the tail". Episode is buck trying to get out of a speeding ticket for driving through a school zone speeding and yet no school was there.

Take pictures of the area and take it to court. The time also plays a major role if the ticket is legit. It would need to be either in the morning or afternoon when the children are present to be a legit ticket. Trust me i work for the california courts. Fight it, most likely the officer wont show but either way take your evidence in.
