Today, I got back from vacation and realised I still had the motel key. The key-ring has the address on it, so you can post it back to them. I drove to the postbox and posted the key. I then discovered that the motel key won't start my car. FML

Today, I rented a car that has a smart key. The proximity of the key determines if the doors will unlock. I went to a meeting and returned to the car with the trunk popped open and all my luggage gone. The rental company decided to store a spare key in the glovebox for safekeeping. FML

Today, I was looking for my condo keys, thinking I had left them in my mailbox on the first floor the night before. Leaving to check, I realized I'd forgot to take them out of my door when I had come in, leaving them in the keyhole. FML

the address of the motel is attached to the ROOM key and not your CAR key so your CAR KEY will never pull up anywhere but the local lost&found especially small hotels/motels/bed&breakfasts do NOT have keycard systems

guys, calm down! every single one of these FML's was preventable, there stupid mistakes made by the writer or someone the writer knew - thats what makes them funny! there is no point in posting on these things telling them how to act next time, they didn't post up here to be lectured

Ok. Seriously. If you haven't ever been to New Zealand, don't comment on the use of keys instead of key cards. I've never ever been to a motel, not overseas, that doesn't use keys. Anyway. Bummer, dude.

That totally sucks for you. Hope you got the keys back!! Or called AA and got them to break into the car for you... (AA in NZ is the Automobile Association, not to be confused with Alcoholics Anon, just in case any foreigners are wondering :p) And yes, NZ motels do often use keys.
