I am sorry for your car accident that is very unfortunate. However, if you did not explain to your boss that you were in a bad car accident and just told him you couldn't make it in, then you deserved to get fired, especially if you had missed work on numerous occasions prior to this incident.
I wouldn't use the term whiplash in court and it's probably best to eliminate the word from your vocabulary as it is not a legal term.

Aha I see my comment was moderated - what I wrote was sometimes pol have a legit reason for missing work but they word it so badly (meaning to their boss) that it appears fake (meaning to the boss), so the boss thinks the person is playing hooky - I'm sure the moderators thought I was calling the FML itself fake
