Today, I got into a heated argument with my mom, because apparently I'm an idiot for not sharing her belief that chickens are mammals. She has a university degree in this stuff. FML

74 No matter how you cook a tomato it's still a fruit. If you put lettuce in a parfait does that make it a fruit? If you wear socks outside are they magically shoes? The only time you can transform a fruit into a vegetable is if you completely paralyze Richard Simmons.

Chickens are birds, which is a different group of vertebrates from mammals. Birds lay eggs, while most mammals give birth to live offspring. The only exceptions to this are the platypus and echidna, which are monotremes, or egg-laying mammals.

Thank you for remembering the echidna. Forever overshadowed by the drunken creation known as the platypus. That's gotta suck, when a species initially thought to be a taxidermic hoax gets all the spotlight.....

Hen is a word that can apply to female birds of various species, not just chickens, but I can see where that argument would get annoying.
