Today, I got pulled over for the first time since I got my license. I have disorganized speech and occasional inappropriate emotional response. I began to laugh due to nervousness and when I tried to explain why, I was arrested because he thought I was high. FML

golden eyed girl - I'm on my iPod &the numbering is weird. but WTF. I think you meant mine? it was the same length as yours.

I don't think the numbering is weird...It's probably because people are replying to comments and not just the OP so the numbers don't always flow.

For the record, unless you provide some type of explanation (doctor's note would help with this one) the seemingly odd behavior is probable cause to be detained until sone sort of test can be conducted to prove otherwise. Especially following some type of violation of law, because let's face it, we're all innocent, and did nothing wrong, yes?

You can't get arrested for being high. You could literally offer the cop a bag of Doritos and tell him what a super, super job he was doing. As long as you haven't got anything on you, there's not a whole lot they can do. They certainly can't arrest you.

haha that almost happened to me once! it was 2 cops..but then another cop that i've known for years saved me! it sure was funny though haha.

they can arrest him because (s)he is driving. that's being under the influence.

that's not that big a deal. they'll drug test you, you'll come up clean, and they'll let you go. orrr, they'll drug test you, you'll come up positive for drugs in your system, and you're screwed, both for that, and for thinking that 'disorganized speech and occasional inappropriate emotional response' is a way to pass off being high

if you have a documented medical condition you should have documentation on you for occasions like this, YDI

My little brother has ADD, #43. It's a documented medical condition. He takes medication for it every day. But he doesn't carry around a piece of paper saying, "I, [his doctor], certify that [his name] suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder, which may cause him to be disruptive, disrespectful, impulsive, unfocused, etc." I have all kinds of depressive and anxiety issues, but I don't carry around documentation proving that I might kill myself or have a panic attack. A friend of mine has an anxiety disorder, but she doesn't carry around documentation saying that she might have anxiety attacks. Get the picture? There's no way not having documentation proving you have a mental illness or disorder merits a YDI. Ass.

#49, actually, you're the ass in this case. No, nobody carries around a paper that says "I'm certifiably mentally disabled," but have you never heard of "guilty, except insane?" Did you never think that if your brother got in serious trouble for something that was 100% due to his ADD, then his doctor would be able to stand up in court and testify that he indeed does have ADD, and cannot control himself in specific circumstances? Obviously #43 did not mean that the OP should've been walking around with a paper that states that they have a mental disorder, but that they could take the ticket to court and win the case very easily by having a doctor testify on their behalf.

Actually, #43 is still the ass. Read the comment over again: "if you have a documented medical condition you should have documentation on you for occasions like this, YDI" Note the "You should have documentation ON YOU" (emphasis mine). That means #43 believes the OP should have had a paper ON HER, WITH HER IN THE CAR, stating she has disorganized speech and inappropriate emotional response. That's an unrealistic expectation, so saying she deserved to get arrested for not having such documentation with her does indeed make #43 an ass. Obviously, you did not actually read the comment carefully, and decided to jump on me for calling someone out who obviously deserved it.

I think he is trying to say it would be a good idea? Just like people with pacemakers have cards that say "I have a pacemaker" to bypass metal detectors? And how diabetics have bracelets to identify themselves as such in an emergency? How some deaf/mute/blind people have cards to ID themselves in an emergency? Just how a lot of elderly carry "vial of life" or "medic alert" cards that have there personal info and their medical history, allergies and medications on them, in case of emergency? Right? It's a good idea. Think ahead.

I agree that it's a good idea, but #43 was saying that just because the OP didn't have a paper explaining her mental illness, she deserved to get arrested. I don't agree with that at all.

when i first read this i thought, wow, this has to be a woman, guess what? i was right. only women suck at driving and have emotional problems and then go post about it on the internet lol.

Go back to trolling school, and pay attention this time

I consider myself pretty sexist. But I think us male drivers are a hell of a lot worst than our female counterparts.

Your third point is absolutely ridiculous. Just because you have never met anyone who suffers from a legitimate disorder, does mean that disorders do not exist. OP could be an (un)diagnosed schizophrenic, or she could suffer from other disorders such as formal thought disorder or social anxiety disorder, all of which would result in oddities in her speech and emotional responses, especially in high-stress situations such as dealing with a person of authority. These kind of disorders cannot be wished away, and they must be dealt with everyday. People who are lucky enough not to be subject to the inconveniences and problems that come along with having any kind of disorder should have respect for those who are. Try considering other people and what they have to deal with, rather than writing them off as weaklings who use "excuses" to justify their "shortcomings".
