Today, I got screamed at by a woman at work for feeding her 3-week-old infant formula instead of the bottled Kool-Aid that she packed. FML

Obviously, because Walmart employees routinely feed babies brought in by their parents.

walmart is doubtful, but there are some stores that have in-house daycare so the parents can drop the kid off and shop without a screaming kid (but they usually must be potty-trained, so i doubt this is the case either).

118--where are these wonderful stores you talk about? That is a fabulous idea!

66- it was a joke, not a dick, don't take it so hard. Not everything has to be a mundanely literal statement.

Your joke didn't make any sense.

I would refuse to do it. Tell her its irresponsible and dangerous for baby. If she doesn't like it find a new daycare and then call dfcs

So is sitting on the couch all day smoking pot, eating pizza, and drinking Mountain Dew, with no exercise or variety in diet

Wtf is wrong with people? Babies need nutrients and things that are good for their stomach not crap and diabetes in a bottle.

F the babies life for having that mother. Saddest fml ever

I'm sure all that koolaid sipping is what's got her brain thinking that way...

Daycare? We used to get a lil boy who was always sent with koolaid and lunchables. As soon as the parents were gone we would switch it with water and what food we had on hand.

You'd switch out his food? If he is any older than a infant it's not your place to make that choice. Just because you work in childcare does not mean your special enough to get a self rigteous attitude about food choices. Any non felon off the street can wipe asses just like you do. For those with no inside knowledge just about anyone can get a daycare job. Facilities are always desperate for workers, the turn over rate is extremely high. Why? First let's work for very little pay, long hours and someone else's bratty kids. Been there done that crap. I came to realize children in daycare are generally the most problematic kids.

While agreeing that #60 is a total asshat, one thing in that rant is correct; you shouldn't just give someone else's child random food, what with all the food allergies that pop up. Although, if he tolerates Kool-aid and Lunchables, there's probably nothing he can't handle lol.

If taking care of kids is nothing but wiping asses I am sure as hell doing something wrong.

yep wiping an ass that's all there is too it. sarcasm at its finest. Good God get a grip people.

Wow you are totally ignorant... Thank goodness you no longer have contact with children. Watching kids is some much more than wiping asses as you put it. You have to nuture kids give them time and attention if all you did was wipe asses then you weren't worthy to be around those kids.

yeah I stuck them in the closet as well. Let's get butt hurt because I stated what most childcare workers do. I have worked in multiple centers and witnessed the lack of compassion first hand. After seeing the way the children are treated I sought out another career. No I did not just wipe butts but the truth is that is exactly what most do. They sit on there smart phones ignoring the children and do the absolute minimum to keep their jobs. After working my tail off to try and change other staffs behavior and getting no where I bowed out. All it takes is having a terrible director to run a facility in the ground. Most childcare workers are not trained. They take people in when ratio numbers are not within boundaries just to cover themselves. Most have no training on.how to care for children and no medical training such as CPR.

Not all daycare are like that. I know many that have activities for the children and treat them well. Try to be part of the solution.

Although I agree with your good intentions, I also agree with the fact that you should never switch out a child's food when the parent leaves. That's something that needs to be discussed with the parent. Say we have these snacks, can he/she have these snacks? Or inform them that you don't allow juice at your facility only milk or water (many places have this rule). Food allergies are a huge concern nowadays, and not the ones you generally think of (milk, peanut butter). For example my brother in law is extremely allergic to peas and certain lagoons, one of my best friends is very very allergic to corn.

Also my sister was highly allergic to peaches when she was little, and I was allergic to eggs. We both grew out of it, but we would both get very very sick and get hives if we were exposed. There are weird allergies out there.

As a daycare worker, I am bothered by your comment. If you found the children such brats, I would guess it was your attitude or lack of skill causing most of the problem. There is a hell of a lot more to my day than wiping noses and butts. Managing large groups of children takes skills. And yes, I too have switched out kids lunches, topped them up. Half the parents claim their children won't eat anything but lunchables and snackeroo's. yet I can feed them a plate of bell peppers and cucumbers without issue. Growing children need nutrition to have the energy to play. Children who are nutritionally starving are cranky, tired and spacey.

He is allergic to legumes? Or small shallow bodies of water??

get off your phone and go back to work with the children you care so much about then

102, yes because I made a spelling error obviously it makes it ok to switch out a child's food without parental consent and possibly cause a life threatening allergic reaction. You're right.

oh moderated I'm scared. Jump off a bridge why don't you.

Actually the daycare we used indicated their policy right up front about what they would or would not allow when feeding the children. So the parents either dealt with it, had a discussion as to why there should be an exception, or found another daycare.

There's a lot of talk about allergies here but if a child is allergic to something then it should be on their medical form as a matter of law and because otherwise they are already in potential danger from close proximity to the other children's pack lunches. Allergies can sometimes appear suddenly but if that's the case then again, that could also happen from other lunches, so isn't really preventable. Therefore, although I would advocate talking to parents and making anti-junk food rules clear before substituting lunches, such a practice shouldn't put a child in danger.

I feel confident in switching out food because I have access to children's files which indicate allergies and food avoided for cultural/religious reasoning.

@106: in your haste to be self righteous and highly insulted, you apparently neglected to notice that the comment mentioned nothing about the rightness or wrongness of giving unauthorized food to children. I, myself am extremely curious; how does a lagoon allergy manifest? And does it occur with exposure to skin, or must it be ingested?

That truly is dangerous. You have a job to report it. That baby's life is in danger.

Go you, OP, for thinking with your own head and doing right by the baby despite the circumstances. It seems to me all mothers packed formulas for their babies and you're supposed to feed them whatever the mother packs? I'm which case you went against the rules because you knew better. Thank you for that.
