Today, I hacked into my best friend's Facebook account to message my mother about organizing a surprise party for myself for my 21st. She ignored the message for two days before replying, "I don't think so. No one would really show up and I think that would hurt her feelings." FML

OP here, I didnt "hack" into her account really, I asked her if I could use her account to try and plan myself a surprise party.. Mainly because Ive always wanted one but never had anyone step up to do it. She gave me her password so I could do it. But apparently that was a waste of time according to my mother...

I'm not surprised that no one would show up for your birthday party. You apparently invade the privacy of your friends. YDI.

well I guess its time to organize your own birthday party :)

YDI solely because I doubt you actually "hacked" your friends Facebook account

by "hacked" she probably means that she knew her password to login. why do most people use the word hack when they have done any such thing. plus isn't hacking into someone's account illegal?

well yeh... it counts as some kind of privacy violation...

Look up "social engineering". It's a perfectly valid form of hacking in the security industry and among hacking circles. It includes getting a password from someone or taking advantage of them leaving something open.

Yeah I'm sorry taking advantage of someone leaving their account open is not social engineering, nor is it hacking.

Is this the gateway to bizzarro-world FML? Almost exactly this same conversation is going down further up the page with people having exactly the opposite reactions. It's like you cross a certain threshold scrolling up and suddenly everyone thinks it's literally illegal to touch anyone else's logged-in social media accounts (which you'd think would have led to a lot more court cases all the times store employees have messed with them when people leave them running on computers there).

You hacked into your friend's Facebook account? That's just creepy and wrong, and I hope you lose your your friend because of it. How would you like it if someone did that to you? No wonder your mom thinks nobody would show up at your birthday party. This is a world of YDI.

There are two kinds of unpopular people: shy nerds and annoying narcissists. Shy nerds don't hack into their best friend's Facebook to organize a party for themselves.

What about nerdy narcissists?

That's sad, but you deserve it. If you can't respect your best friend's privacy, I can't see why you would have any friends. I wouldn't trust you if I knew you were hacking me. Not trying to be mean, just realistic.

Am so sorry you had to HACK into your friends Facebook account to get OTHERS to organise your birthday. That's sad

This is definitely a YDI. I'm wondering how many fml's complaining of no one likes them, are doing stuff like this and/or gossiping about friends ect... and they still wonder why they don't get invited to a party or to hang out. If a friend throws you a surprise party or plan one it's nice but it isn't required. They shouldn't feel obligated to do so, they should do it because they want to because they like you as a friend. You feel like it's owed to you for some reason and hacked a "friends" fb? Not something a friend does.

How did your friend not see the messages?!

Maybe she did and told OPs mum? I hope so. And I hope the friend dumps her and changes her FB password soon, OP sounds awful.

Hopefully, you have a popular sister who is going on a journey sometime soon.

Don't know why Perdix is getting the thumbs down here... it was related to another FML. Thumbs up, Perdix!
