Today, I had a job interview at a local business with the owner who was man, and the manager who was a woman. I thought I did pretty well because I heard the manager whisper so, as I was walking out. Then I heard the owner whisper "no fat chicks." FML

People can be so disrespectful. :/ As though your weight has any bearing on how well you can do the job. It sounds like the owner was just being a jackass, so you're probably better off not working there at all. And btw, we have no idea what the OP looks like. The comments about she needs to lose weight are just stupid.

I'm surprised more people don't know this...in order to sue for discrimination, you have to be a memeber of a protected class. Protected classes are age, race, gender, disability, religion, and sexual oritentation...in other words, you can't sue unless they discriminate against you because of those things. Overweight people are not a protected class...you might think it sounds unbelivable, but trust me, I just spent an entire 3 weeks in school going over discrimination in the work place. Employers cannot get in trouble for discriminating based on weight, and I am 100% positive.

For those saying that weight doesn't have any bearing on how well you can do the job, I disagree. If she was applying for something which involves dealing directly with customers, it will make the owner more money to hire slim, physically attractive people, because it will attract more customers into the establishment, and might be convinced to spend more. You might be the nicest person in the world, but unfortunately, customers don't have x-ray soul vision, and simply see what's on the surface.

At least you had an interview...I have a felony, so it's gonna be IMPOSSIBLE for me to get a job.

#74: It's illegal to refuse employment because of a disability. Refusing an applicant because she is not responsible enough to take care of her own body, is a perfectly valid decision. That's not a disability. It's a consequence of personal irresponsibility, and no business should hire a person like that. She has no legal grounds on which to sue.

Jeez, why should you sue him ? It is business and he can decide who he is going to employ. Beside I´d wonder how you would prove that he said what you said he did.

No, legally he can't decide who he is going to employ based on that criteria.
