You'd think a woman named Gaye would be used to people making that mistake and say "My name is Gaye" instead.
Lol that's hilarious hope everything worked out op
dw its human to make mistakes
hahahahahaha moron
That lady was a humourless bitch if she got offended, when you're called Gaye you must get that quite a lot, so she should have been used to it. It's not other people's fault that her parents gave her a name which leads to such misunderstandings. On the other hand, who the hell greets you with "I'm gay" at a job interview? OP should have thought that maybe she misunderstood before assuming that person was gay.
I'd have had pretty much the same reaction, OP. Sure it may seem a little forward, but if she were a lesbian she could just through that out at the get go so she can screen out any employees that would give her grief for that fact.
Who names their kid "Gaye." More like "yeah, F her life" Besides, if you introduce yourself as "Gaye" and don't explain its your name, its your fault for making the other person fell bad.

I would've been confused too OP.
You'd think someone named Gaye would be used to that reaction by now, and would introduce herself as "Gaye Smith", or "My name is Gaye. "
