Today, I had a job interview with a person named Chris. The entire time I couldn't figure out if Chris was a man or woman. The interview went as good as it could have went. At the end I said, "Thank you very much sir." Wrong gender. FML

This is actually similar to a very poorly made movie called Pat, which originated from a skit I think on SNL. But there are other ways to address someone then with sir or ma'am. You also could've asked what Chris was short for too. Like there's Christian and Christopher for men, Christina and Christine for women. Just sayin'. Are you trying to sound almost offensive with, "The interview went as good as it could have went" though? Because it sounds it.

I'm androgynous, too- I swear we don't do it to piss you off. Some people don't fit neatly in male/female boxes.

why would you throw the extra "sir" at the end if you weren't even sure the interviewer was a man?

Agreed. And What the hell is happening with these comments?!?! 1,2,3,81???

Why'd you choose if you weren't sure? YDI.

OMG I also hate when I see these ppl that I can't really define whether is a guy or a women. It just sucks. And when I think is a women, I try to see she/he has any breasts, but its very hard because usually they are a little fat. so it sucks to be her

heres an idea, look for the adams apple. YDI

I'm guessing you were talking to her via e-mail or phone?

Not your fault... Doesn't sound like they quite know either

Oh god, a few days ago I was complaining about that kind of person. God, just because you've been through menopause doesn't mean you have to hide the fact you have any sexuality whatsoever... -.-''' You didn't deserve it, I would've made the same mistake.

Or, y'know, some people don't fit neatly into what you have defined as proper genders and like to look how they want to look. Don't be insensitive.

I feel bad for people like that sometimes, but really, a little lipstick and a barette or something would fix that problem. If they don't male the effort to appear one gender or the other it's they're own fault

I hate lipstick and hair clips give me a headache after about 10 seconds. Now, I have fairly big boobs and I think I have a feminine enough face considering I've had pixie cuts and never had any gender confusion brought to my attention. But if that weren't the case, should I make myself uncomfortable just so other people don't feel awkward? I think people would just avoid using any gender specific titles. I've had those situations and it is a little awkward but that doesn't mean they should go out of their way if that's not how they want to dress.

You shouldn't - unless you wanted to be sure people wouldn't mistake you for a man. That's the choice.
