Today, I had an hour long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML

I have come to the conclusion that your boss is an idiot.

well how sad is that. what happened to honest hard working people?

Let me guess, straight after this happened you were then assigned to assist the new hopeless kid, and a nice threat of dismissal served on the side if the new fish continues being a hopeless case.

It amazes me how dumb some people can be man. Thats the damn point of having a job to work.

Welcome to the final downward spiral of America. Accountability is dead.

Tell her that it's okay if you threaten them with a write up; it would only be a problem when you pull the whip out to make them work!

You mean people might actually do WORK at WORK? That's INSANE! You might start a whole new trend!

You must be a total b!t€H!!

Dude, I admire you because of your hilarious comments, and your oh so clever manipulations of symbols when spelling bitch. Also because your from "rack city". Ride a dick.

Maybe what she means to say is that you're too uptight... My manager is awesome because he treats us like human beings. He gave me a couple days off when I asked for them because I deserved it "more than anyone else [there]". This is after a month of working six days a week btw. He's the ideal boss in that he doesn't breathe down our necks and trusts us to do our jobs. Maybe that's what they want and she just phrased it wrong? Either way FYL op, that can't feel very good.

Quit complaining I work 90-100 hrs a week. 6 days every week. And I still only make 38k a year.

Well good for you. A lot of people don't even make that. Just because you work so much doesn't mean that someone who works less hours don't have their own problems that they need to bitch/vent about. To you it may seem trivial.. But to them it may be major. K thanks. :)

If you work that much and only make $38 k a year, that's sad and you might want to change professions. If you work 90+ hrs a week, that means you have two jobs (Its illegal to work over 40 hrs a week unless you get paid overtime and no company would pay 50 hrs overtime every week. PLUS if you were getting paid overtime, you would be making well over $50 k a year). Working 2 jobs is YOUR choice. Don't get on her because she works hard at onejob. Working hard for 6 days straight for months on end is hard. Everyone needs a break now and then. You of all people should know that.

I love all the rage about my comment. I should probably mention I make $10.30 an hr.

FYI gorgeous_chik7, it's not illegal to work more than 40hrs per week. Just ask any nurse, firefighter, etc. Most non-union jobs don't have restrictions about how many hours you are limited to. You work until the work gets done. Not everyone can pull down a 6 figure salary.

Or she's salary in which case no OT!

You're an idiot if you're proud of agreeing to being exploited. Join a union if you can and stop being a workaholic. You're not benefiting anyone, not yourself, society, spouse, kids, friends or anyone except your profiteering boss. If you're working that hard in a business that doesn't make a significant profit even for the boss then its a business that needs to fail and wrap up for being uncompetitive. Basically you're doing a disservice to society as a whole by advocating a work lifestyle that is unsustainable, miserable and unnecessary.

I think your manager should reconsider her position on what it means to be a "boss."

I don't know about the situation, it is very possible that your boss really is an idiot like that. On the other hand, couldn't i be that your boss ment you'd "make them do their job" as opposed to "motivate them to do their job"?
