Today, I had an hour long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML

You should talk to your boss's boss about this.

Even though finding a new job in today's economy isn't easy perhaps you should start looking around. Working for a competent boss is essential for feeling satisfied in your career. If you're not happy at work chances are you're not happy at home. You could try sending out your resume and see what other opportunities exist.

Because god forbid you make them do their jobs when youre supposed to do that anyways.

I shared this on Facebook. I quoted you when I did.

Response to Boss. I can see why you don't want me to get the promotion. If I did then you would have to do your job.

Perhaps you didn't get that promotion because you'd come across more like a slave driver than a supervisor. Nothing wrong with getting people to "do their job" but when you let that authority get to your head, it may bring moral down in the work place because of you having a power ego trip.

Welcome to corperate america. speaking from the position of the child of a person egrossed in "the industry" for 20+ years this is how things work now. As a manager you are no longer allowed to "make people work" you have to "ecourage them" or "nurdge them along" possibly "offer incentives" what every happened to your paycheck being your phucking incentive??? But yes typical office disciplinary measures have dwindled down to nothing more than "Stop it, or I will tell you to stop at a later time" Can I please un-join society?

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat.

Are you the same person that has the failure of a boss?

Isn't that the point? You know, to make people do their jobs?
