Today, I had an hour long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML

well part of it could be solved if people could be fired without the company having to worry about them suing or drawing unemployment or sum dumb crap like that. there is lots of other reasons why ppl are lazy thats just one. i could write a book on why people are lazy and don't work

Whatever happened to the good ole days???

Ok. I'm pretty sure that's not true. No employer or manager would complain about that. My guess is that you took what she was saying as such when really, in a nice, professional way, she was telling you that you don't work well with people and basically that you're a bitch and no one would want to work with you. If you "made them do their job" by constantly harrassing them or being condenscending, then no good employer would want a manager like that.

Coincidence? My spouse, who is a manager, had a meeting to tell someone that they didn't get a job the previous manager had all but promised them. She was very troubled about it. But the person admitted interpersonal flaws in the interview process without indicating any efforts to improve.

and there's the reason why the world is falling apart

I suspect that nurses and firefighters' work fall under essential services and therefore fall out of the employment standards for most countries. So they may be required to work additional hours.
