Today, I had to attend a meeting with my parents, my teacher, and my bully and his parents. When we started, my bully "broke down" and "tearfully" told the teacher that I was the one bullying him, and that he was getting blamed to cover it all up. They believed him. FML

Damn, there are some real scumbags in the world.

How would the kid even have any evidence to prove you were bullying him if you were the victim

Wow. Been a while since assholes like those exists. I was hoping they got extinct. Ah well...

One solution: get evidence. Put your phone on record(assuming you have one)& try your best to not make it obvious

Even if they got evidence, the more likely scenario would end up being that the school suspends them both. Yes it sounds stupid to suspend both the bully and the victim, but that's generally how schools dish out their "zero tolerance" policies.

If they are both going to get suspended anyway considering the bully is claiming op bullied him, why not clear your name at least?

That is true, I guess I don't really know the extent of the bullying going on if it's just verbal then recording could help but physical would have the no tolerance policy come in to play. You're right

At that point I would just punch the guy in the face then. Hey, they already think she's a bully might as well run with it. And maybe he will leave her alone after that.

This actually isn't a bad idea. It depends on the extent of the bullying, but if the bully is threatening or harassing the OP, which is generally something bullies do, they harass the person. The school might not do anything, but they could get the police involved. In Virginia, threatening someone is a crime, an oral threat of harm to kill or do bodily injury is a crime if it is committed on the grounds of a school or school activity. That charge would be a Class 1 misdemeanor, with maximum penalties of up to 12 months in jail. So if they record it, at the very least they have evidence to take it to higher authorities. Maybe even just mentioning that they are going to do this, might be enough for the bully to back off.

Normally in some states it's illegal to record without the other person knowing so if they did record it couldn't be used as evidence.

Actually, if I recall my business law class correctly, in quite a chunk of states, if you are involved in the conversation, it's legal to record without the other party's consent.

Virginia is a 1 party consent recording state. That means only one of the parties needs to consent to the recording of the conversation or actions. In this case, that would be the OP consents since they're the one doing the recording, and the consent of the other person/bully is not needed, it can even be done without their knowledge.

Also, social media can also help. Our bullies finally got in trouble when a friend friended them and printed out the conversations of them saying how they wanted to bush our friend after school and beat her possibly to death.

I was looking for this comment. Definitely try and record the bully! You could go up to them after this meeting and say something along the lines of "why did you say I was bullying you when you're the one that has been bullying and harassing me for so long? You never leave me alone, why?" Then you can hopefully record their response. As someone else mentioned, the recording(s) would be good to have not just for the school but in case you have to get the police involved as well. I'd try to record them a few times if possible. Also keep a diary of the times they bother you, what they did & when, and if there were any witnesses that would possibly tell what they saw.

Hopefully you can ,at the minimum, convince your parents that you aren't doing anything, and they'll transfer you to a better school.

Time to set him up. Devise a movie-style plan where the real bully is admitting the truth and everyone hears!

that reminds me of how my older cousin and i went to the same school and he was bullying me and told the whole bus that i wet the bed and then when we got to school told my favorite teacher that i called him a big fat santa claus... luckily she believed me and not him.. but that really sucks that they didnt believe u were the one being bullied

Ugh how infuriating!!! Maybe have some friends record him bullying you. Who knows maybe you will be yputube famous.

YDI for being a snitch and giving someone a reason to bully you.

It should seem odd to the adults in the room that you reporter being bullied if you were in fact the actual bully.

The bully is 1. A good actor 2. Or every adult there was stupid.
