You should have went even if it meant going without a partner. It is more fun that way since that means you are free to dance with anyone - no boundaries attached (unless you have someone in mind you wanted to go with). BUT if you had to work, despite wanting to go, FYL.
The only reason people feel like losers for not having prom dates is because people make a huge deal out of prom. It might have been great in the 50s or whenever the Hell my grandmother raved about high school, but it really wasn't fun in the 90s and thereafter. I went with a blind-date my junior year because no upperclassman even talked to me (my friends either went to different schools or they were underclassmen - no guy friends). The guy looked like Weird Al with normal hair, smelled like he hadn't bathed in awhile and talked about nothing but his saxaphone. Senior Year, I went with one of my best guy friends. He spent the whole time telling perverted jokes and had me skip the after-prom party to go to another party where he got drunk, smked weed (which he never did before then), threw up on me and passed out). That's hard to explain to your preacher father when you get home.
Life starts after high school, don't worry ^__^
I'll take you out for some chicken and maybe some sex
Please don't stress, life gets much better after school... People who say "school is the best time of your life" are quite pessimistic. You have the whole world to explore soon! And you have the ability to choose the people you want in your life!
I know at your age it's hard to believe, but this doesn't make you lame. Focus on what you want to be for yourself. Get yourself to a place where people who happened have a date can't make you feel lame, because shit like that has no bearing on your self image.
you should have went with your friends. i heard it's better that way (:
Hey at least you made money while they spent money. It'll be oh so sweet when you can send yourself on a vacation. And since this is prom, graduation is near right? College is a new start. I know from experience. Don't let this bum you out OP.
I never went to any school dance because I hate dressing up, high heels, and being cramped in a room full of classmates I don't normally socialize with. I was asked by guys a handful of times, but that type of thing never appealed to me. I would hear other girls talk about prom and homecoming and be so excited. But I never did get excited over dressing up.
I also don't get the hype of such things as well. If you want to do something with friends just go out and do it. Why do you have to have an school organized event to have fun with your friends/significant other. Plus as you said, you don't have to be surrounded by people you don't know.
It's not that fun anyaway.

Prom is lame anyway, why would you want to go? I mean, everyone knows all the cool kids don't go, right?
If you were that desperate to go, why didn't you ask somebody?
