Today, I heard that there was supposed to be a huge blizzard heading our way, so I went out to stock up on groceries. After spending $600 on food, I drove home and packed most of it into the fridge and freezer just in time for our power to go out. FML

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to buy food that can be stored and doesn't perish at room temperature when a storm heads your way?

if it's cold enough to snow, put all the stuff outside

I voted FYL but it does seem like you should have considered the fact that the power would probably go out and buy non perishable items like they always advise you to do in one of those situations. Kinda a dumb move.

Canned food OP!! If you spent that much then why didn't you buy a generator?? YDI

What is it with people and piling up months worth of food for a blizzard that may last 2-5 days?

Better spend another 600 on a portable generator

It's okay, if there's actually a blizzard, keep your food in the snow!

A blizzard in October?! Where do you live?

That's why you never buy perishable food when there's a of a blackout from a storm

Put it all outside. If you think animals with walk off with the items, put them in coolers packed with snow. If you need to cook, use your grill. A BBQ during a snowstorm is just as fun as any other time. There is a solution for everything. Keep calm and carry on.

Maybe OP has a big family amd that's why they spent so much on groceries. But if not OP should've planned ahead instead of going in a panic mode and buying so many perishables.
