Today, I introduced my new boyfriend to my parents. Everyone knows he's into the emo scene, but this didn't stop my dad from slowly looking him up and down, then saying, completely deadpan, "You never told us you were a lesbian, honey." FML

Did your boyfriend go home and right a whiny song about it?

Never liked the emo attitude, gothic wannabes listening reggaeton and dancing it... What a shame

It's all just a phase that will pass with time. One day your boyfriend will look back and say "what the **** was I thinking?" Its just a desperate plea for attention. Negative or positive, it doesn't matter as long as they get noticed and they feel important. LONG LIVE EMO!!! Who's emo anyways?

Emo BOYS that's what you call a contradiction in terms.

Your dad wins more than Charlie Sheen.

There's nothing wrong with being Emo or scene thank yew very much!! Were people too just cause we like screamo and death metal doesn't mean we whine and complain about everything we have feeling and it's people like you that put us down why is every one so negative why put people down?! Its just not right I respect people for being who they are because their brave enough to be different :)

Oh sweetie. :( Grow up. :/ You're a cute girl. And you can't put a label on different. You'll figure it all out.

Except emos don't listen to metal. They listen to winny crap that makes you feel like cutting yourself because it's so bad.

Yew? Seriously.... But on the other hand, sounds like your begging for attention. In your pic you look more preppy than emo. Hate to break it to ya darling.

78- being different by following fashion trends is just another way of fitting in. I never made a point to advertise how different I was by dressing up simply because I listened to punk music as a teenager.

Oh you "scene kids"...you try too hard to be "different" and you're all the ******* same.

I've been listening to thrash and death metal for 25 years. People who don't accept it will NEVER accept it, no matter how old you or they are. The emo look is a tough one to accept for most people. If you don't want people to prejudge you on your appearance, then don't appear that way. I had a mohawk for five years. I gave it up when I got tired of people acting towards me as if I were a circus freak. You will NEVER end prejudgment based on looks. Our entire society is based on it; thus, whether it is right or wrong to do so is irrelevant.

Can you shut up,because your not emo scene or goth. Just because your hair is a bit puffy and you have a bow in it doesn't mean your scene, emo, or goth.

There's been a lot of bands where the members dress up crazy (in various ways) but most of them get away with it because they have talent. Emo's are the exception. You don't see girly emo bands, like Tokio Hotel for example, with the same kind of talent as bands of other genres where the members dress up. Like Kiss or Alice Cooper. Even modern bands like Slipknot or Mudvayne make emo's look absolutely terrible.

Yeah, well at one time they did. It works though cause they're good. Their bassist in particular is amazing.

Regardless of anyone's view on emo, I think it was easy to see this coming. If the family knew that the boyfriend was into the emo scene BEFORE being introduced to him, OP felt the need to warn them... and it seems that anytime someone warns their family about another person's style, the family seems hell-bent on preparing to humiliate them!
