Today, I knocked over a display case at a mall, shattering hundreds of dollars in goods. Embarrassed, I tried to scurry out of the nearest door without being seen. I scuttled right into the janitor's closet, the door automatically locking behind me. I waited for an hour to be let out. FML

Favourited for use of the word 'scuttled'

Well now you can get a broom to sweep up the mess you made, OP.

You should have owned up to your mistake. Hopefully you'll know to do that if it happens again.

Tou could have said that u were looking for him

This sounds like something that would happen in a movie. But it doesn't seem safe that the door remains locked from the inside, what if it closes on the janitor one day? Good thing they found you somewhat quickly though, could've been a lot worse.

Depending on the size, it may open by key card. The one at our office has sinks and such in it and a card reader on both sides, plus an intercom so the janitor hears pages (or for people like OP to call for help).

But why would it be unlocked from the outside so that the OP or some other random person can enter but locked from the inside so that they can't get out? That's what doesn't make sense. If it was a set up like at your office the OP wouldn't have been able to enter in the first place.

Socially Awkward Penguin....is that you? :O

I cannot stand people who make a big mess in the store and refuse to own up to it. It can cost someone else injury for you to avoid admitting responsibility to something like that.

Sounds less like embarrassment & more like trying to flee a crime scene to me, since you in fact "scuttled" into a janitors closet whilst trying to run & hide, yet didn't seem to know your way out of the mall in your panic to avoid paying for the damages. YDI...also, I notice there's no mention that it was an accident.
